Pew Pew! For a Few Credits More

Selected Option:

Pew Pew! For a Few Credits More is sequel to Pew Pew Bounty Hunters in Space.

What's it got?

  • It has the base rules for Pew Pew! along with:
  • a new adventure and accompanying map
  • It also has a random character generator
  • and a random adventure generator

Pew Pew! is a one-shot tabletop RPG for up to seven players (and one GM).  It uses the same system (lightly modified) from Havoc Brigade by Grant Howitt. Many thanks to Grant for graciously agreeing to let us do that. (If you haven't played Havoc Brigade - please check it out.)

It's a rules-light roleplaying game, with everything you need to play (aside from dice and friends).

It's light-hearted and intended for one shots; this isn't a story about deep-seated emotional turmoil and tortured introspection.

It's also great for new gamers, or playing online, because it's easy to pick up and quick to play.

It's a game about explosions and loads of big fights and ray guns and, maybe, maybe laser swords.  It's an excellent game to run at conventions or as an emergency pick-up game, because all the prep is already done – it's baked into the system.

This is a game designed to tell one particular story: a rough and tumble bounty hunter squad tracking down a target in a sci-fi fantasy western setting.

Pew Pew! is built for speed. So all the characters are all pre-generated, so the GM should hand them out at the start of the session and the players can pick which ones they like. BUT - it's a simple system - so chargen is pretty easy. A blank character sheet is included.

Healing Question:

It says:

"A character with combat medicine expertise can attempt to heal another character or themselves.

Any character can use a medpack or firstaid kit. Medpacks or similar medical devices are required to heal someone."

Does this mean only characters with a medic skill can heal themselves? and others who can use a medkit can only heal another character, but not themselves?

Also it the word 'attempt to heal' is used when referring to the medic skill, does this mean there needs to be a roll to see if they are successful? (i presume only if they have or anyone in the group has a medkit to spare). So the medic would use 2 dice and the non-medic would use 1 die. Or this isn't suppose to be rolled at all?

I guess you could have it DURING combat (or a dramatic scene) it has to be rolled for and afterwards no roll required?

the idea was
1) If you have the combat medicine expertise you can heal without a medpack
2) anyone can heal (themselves or others) if there is a medpack handy
3) I probably should have specified a default target number
Thanks for this feedback. I'm writing the next manuscript in the Pew Pew series right now. I'll make sure to incorporate this feedback in there.

Just a question concerning the sample ships and space combat.

1# One piece of equipment for the Govt Battlecruiser is Deflectors 0000, Does the 4 zeros mean it takes 4 hits to bring the deflectors or shield down? im presuming so.

2# I am confused about Ship Damage Levels, if the zeros are just for marking off damage taken like the wound or armor system then why is it said elsewhere Ship Damage levels are set to 7 points? However i noticed two ships in the sample ships have 1 missing 0. At first i took it to mean 7k or 24k etc. Which didn't make sense i thought were just stats for immersion sake.

3# Also I think larger ships with say turbo or blaster lasers would be bigger weapons physically in size and thus deal more damage than say a smaller ship with heavy blasters or whatnot. I guess we could just add an extra dice for a weapon on a larger ship.

4# How would a Player character who has piloting skills affect space combat? lets say the craft he is flying...See more

1) yep
2) the "seven points" looks to be a mistake. I will clean that up in the next edition (working on it now). Thanks for calling that out.
3)feel free to add extra dice for larger guns if you'd like. As written (IIRC) the system treats pretty much all equipment as the same - just one die to add to the roll
4) you are correct - can add both the Skill Piloting and whatever Equipment the ship has that makes it more agile (I'd probably give it a goofy scifi sounding name like "Avionics Computer") to the ship combat roll

Thanks for your replies.

Suggestion 1#
May i suggest in the next addition for Sample Ships to display ship damage like 6 [O O O O O O] in BOLD font rather than 6 -000000, this would make it more obvious its not 6k and also easier to read and cross those O off with a pencil.

Suggestion 2#
I am a little unsure about the rolling dice rules for success, i am adapting this for solo play, so when there is a challenge roll to be made like say hacking a terminal, I also fill in for the GM and roll dice. So for clarity; i am adding up how many successful rolls aka >=4 for the character vs the Challenge rolls (GM rolls) successful rolls. Correct? i think it needs to be worded more clearly if that is the case. Because at first i thought subsequent addition rolls with a dice for 1 skill and/or equipment is suppose to increase the chance of rolling high. I mean if the GM rolls two 6s and the player only rolls a 4 and 5 then the GM wins the challenge as it were right? But if the...See more

that's a great idea, actually. I'll have to think about that. Do you have any solo RPG systems you'd recommend as a good fit?

At the moment i adapting it to Mythic Emulator, the creator of that btw released a new Mythic Ezine edition v25 where there is a one page light rules version, which makes Mythic even more simple to grasp and i think fits with Pew Pew's simple rules.

What is the difference between this and the original? Is this a standalone product or an expansion? If I buy only one do I miss out on anything by not having the other?

well - they have different adventures, maps and antagonists in the original book and this one. That's the big difference.
There are also a few new pregen characters in this one. This one also has an adventure generator and a character generator.
Other than that - same system.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
