From the creator of Little Fears and Streets of Bedlam comes a new story-focused roleplaying game system. In Full Deck Roleplaying, players create characters, create worlds, and create drama through the use of standard playing cards. But the cards are not just there to do your bidding. They influence the game by narrowing your choices and adding new details, forcing you to adapt to the hand that life—or at least the game—has dealt you.

You can try out Full Deck Roleplaying for absolutely free or you can kick in a few bucks if you want, no pressure. Download the Full Deck Roleplaying Playtest Document. This beautifully-illustrated 66-page PDF contains the core Full Deck Roleplaying game system—setting creation, character creation, and the rules of play including handy reference sheets so you don't have to dig for information during a session.

Full Deck Roleplaying puts the story in your hands.

Players who send in feedback will be credited in the final Full Deck Roleplaying book and will be given a discount code to save 25% off the final PDF.

Bought this a couple days ago after it was mentioned on a gaming website I read. I've read through the document once alone and plan to give it a try in a 2-player game (one DM one player) some time in the next few days. (not counting vast quantities of video games) My only experience with tabletop RPGs is playing AD&D 2nd Ed. about 25 years ago, so I'm not sure how valuable my feedback will be, or if I'll even play this game correctly. But I'm very interested in this game system because it utilizes nothing more than standard decks of playing cards and a character sheet. I'm hoping it will be easy enough to get into as a first-time RPG system for my non-gaming friends and family.

EDIT: Oh yea, and I'd be interested in seeing a group playing with this system on Youtube or something as a reference if anybody ever records their session.

I’m hoping it’s easy enough to be someone’s first roleplaying game system too so please let me know! I want it to be accessible to people who have never played an RPG before but are interested in cooperative storytelling games.

I’m also thinking about doing a video to help teach the system when the game gets closer to launch.

Do you have a link to the gaming website that mentioned the game?

Sure. I didn't want to post the site itself in case it would get flagged as spam, but this is the post I saw in the board gaming thread.

Given that everyone plays with their own deck(s), would you say this is "suited" for play by video conference, with players in different locations? It seems like it could work, especially if your group can play by the honor system. I haven't had the chance to try the game myself.

Also, here's a minor quibble. Obviously, the intention is to have the black joker (infinity - 1) be worth less than the red joker (infinity), but that's not how arithmetic with infinity works. Infinity plus, minus, times, or divided by any finite number is still infinity. Infinity minus 1 = infinity. You can search for the arithmetic properties of infinity to verify.

I think it would suit video conferencing well, especially since you can always bring the entire draw deck into view and then draw the top card to show people.

The “infinity-1” was intended as a fun way to show that the Black Joker has a value that can only be beaten by the Red Joker. I can look for a different term though.

If I remember correctly in Spades they refer to the two jokers as the 'big joker' and the 'little joker'.

"Black Joker = Infinity -1" is a valid mathematical equation, no need to worry about changing it just for that reason. There are many mathematical statements and equations which are theoretical in nature and, when set in certain circumstances, are useful as such.

Full Deck Roleplaying follows the standard RPG format of a game master (called the Dealer, here) and at least one other player.

Hello, I ve scanned the rules quickly, and i m very interested to try it, especially because there is no stat, no perk, no skills, no descriptive traits ; as it seems focused more on the character personality, i really looking forward the definitive version.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
