The Ruin D100

ADD TO WISHLIST >
Selected Option:

The world fell and now you need to survive!

The Ruin is a dark and gritty Post Apocalyptic RPG using a D100 rule system, everything you need is inside this book.

The world of The Ruin was destroyed by an invasion from another dimension, creatures determined to terraform the Earth into a world they could live, but in order to save our planet, we almost destroyed it.

The Ruin is not a Zombie game but more a true apocalyptic experience, no mutants or even mutations just you against wild animals, gangs, raiders and disease, more akin to movies like the Book of Eli and The Road then The Walking Dead.

Within the game are:

  • 7 classes to choose from
  • All rules for combat and vehicle combat
  • Gear and weapon tables
  • How to build a Settlement
  • 4 City Guides
  • 17 pages of threats
  • Encounter tables
  • Rules for surviving the wastes

So Grab your Scrap Gun and start exploring the wastes of The Ruin RPG

I hope this is a stupid question. If I don’t put any points in a skill, its base value is equal to the linked attribute. Which means that if I don’t put any points in “search” and my attribute is 13, then I have a 13% chance of finding anything. The rules state I have to go with this because this is a skill. Am I missing something here? How can I play a game of apocalyptic survival and have a Search of 13? I’m just asking - I’m confused. Thanks in advance.

If you look at p.48 you will see: "When a situation arises that is not covered by a
skill the player multiplies the relevant attribute by 5 and this becomes the percentage chance, this can be further modified if the GM wishes."

In the other d100-based games by the same author [Space Gits, Stranded, Fantasy Gits, Delve] Attributes are x5 to produce a %. For some reason here, probably because it's one of his older games, it wasn't made clear [see also the arm-wrestling example at the top right of p.49]...skills should be added to the associated attribute's x5 value.....Although I would suggest that instead of using the Attribute's base value x5% for an "advanced skill" that a character does not have, that skill uses the appropriate Attribute's modifier i.e. Base Value-10 x5%....what you want to classify as Advanced Skills is up to you, but the obvious seems to be Crafting, Mechanics, Medicine, Repair, [possibly] Ride, [possibly, depending on background] Survival, Technology,...See more

Thank you so much Mark for your thoughtful and thorough reply. In other D100 games it’s common to multiply the 3-18 stat by 5. I just couldn’t find it in the rules. It’s called reading I guess. Thank you again.

Yeah, that would be the obvious way to use it. Thanks, glad I can finally answer questions when they were asked not 6 months later. On another note regarding the Ruin D100, I am updating this title in the near future, this will change it a bit, but the new "2nd ed" will be uploaded for free to the existing files so you can choose to use it or just continue playing the original.

It wouldn't it's a different character-creation system. You could use monsters from other games, ignoring the stats and just using their skill percentages.

Very interesting game. I am playing it, but it looks like unfinished and abandoned. There are some mistakes, lack of clarity at some points and incoherences, such as the combat example page, where all the stats and examples of use have nothing to do with the final bought game, as if it were an adaptation of a different game or the draft of the game that the author forgot to update. It's really a pity, because I like it a lot. Besides, the character creation is a bit cumbersome and long and would benefit of a seamless procedure and a better explanation.

Hi, Jay:
I have noticed that you have adapted the many 5E supplements for the genuine D100 version. But have you corrected the many mistakes and have finished the half-baked D100 core rulebook? Otherwise, the supplements are useless, if the core book does not show a solid gameplay.

I see that you are expanding the game with adventures and settings, but you haven't directed the many mistakes in the core rulebook Why should I buy more supplements for a game that is unfinished? Really a pity...

The game is unfinished its a complete rules, the combat example uses the rules from the book, not sure what you are seeing but apart from a few spelling mistakes everything is solid and complete.

The game is far from being complete and solid. You promised in a previous reply that you would correct it, but you didn't comply. Apparently you are only focused in the 5E version of this same game and in supplements, but the D100 core game is nearly abandoned. I have bought almost everything you have published. My bad! Not any longer!

It is complete, I'm not sure why you think it isn't. It has all the rules needed to play and full rules for character creation, there is nothing more I can add except for more missions etc, which would be independent of the core rules anyway. Please let me know what you feel is missing that makes it imcomplete.

It's cumbersome. It reminds me of something that has been adapted from other systems, corrected in several (disconnected?) iterations. Maybe for someone very experienced in roleplaying, it's something that can be overseen easily (such as when you read a text with clerical mistakes but don't even notice them as you take them for granted). To someone new to roleplaying like me, it's not seamless at all. I tried my best. I even used it for a story for a Contest-Exhibition of SOLO roleplaying "matches" organized by a group of nearly 900 solo roleplayers of the Spanish-speaking world. I couldn't advance much. I didn't enjoy it. It was not comfortable nor easy to play. I wrote five different stories played with five different roleplaying systems. Only yours I had to finish it quite quickly, because it was not friendly for someone new such as me. (If you are curious, here you have it, in Spanish, though: https://solohistorias.eu).
If you still see that newecomers are not worthy of a further effort to...See more

It's not really designed to be played solo, maybe that is where you went wrong. Also, I tend not to write rules for beginners, there are plenty of games and the 5th ed version for newer players or those moving from 5th ed. I'm sorry that your experience was bad.

No. Playing solo was not the reason for the bad experience. Absolutely not. I still believe that the game is not solid, but I will not insist, since you claim that you don't write for beginners. Regarding 5th ed.,I didn't want anything from WotC. Besides, I prefer me playing the game, not the dice playing the game for me.
As you say, there are many solid games out there, beginners friendly or not. Regards.

Under Combat, page 53, there's modifiers for Called Shots: it strikes me that the Extreme Range and Long Range ought to refer to any shot, not just Called Shots, and that they are actually Medium and Long Ranges, BUT, in any event, there's there is no indication of how far those ranges are in the rules anyway....might I suggest Medium is over 20% and Long is up to the max. range given on the weapons' tables, and that Extreme Range is up to x2 with the effects referred to for firing at over the max. effective range given in the top right para on that page?

Also, just to be an additional thorn in your side, under Death & Injury at the top of page 55, there's a reference to "(see critical injury tables)", except, other than the hit location table showing locational hit points on page 31, which doesn't really count, there's no actual Critical Injury Table that I can find........is this something just missing from the D100 version and not the D&D 5th Ed., or should I classify...See more

Sorry Jay, here I go again:
The Combat Example onpage 52 seems to use a [presumably outdated] Brawn instead of Strength, "Spottin'" which I prume should be Awareness, and "Reacts" for
Initiative, which makes no mention of the characters' in the example regarding their Instincts bonus.
The other thing is that the characters are referred to as using their "Shootin'" skill, which isn't in the skill list [anymore?], so Sam should be using Ranged for the bow, and both Phil and Ian should be using the Firearms skill for guns.

Hope you agree?

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
