A missing idol leads intrepid investigators on the trail of madness through Boston and Arkham.

Is there a curse? Is the dark god Thoth watching from afar?

‘The Idol of Thoth’ by Joe Trier (Fear’s Sharp Little Needles, How We Roll Podcast) is an adventure for the Call of Cthulhu roleplaying game from Chaosium Inc set in the classic era of the 1920s and is suitable as an introductory scenario for a single evening’s play.

I purchased this recently and this is yet another scneario where building plans have completely no sense. Why on earth designers are not getting real plans or at least ask someone with little sense to look at them?

I was really hoping to acquire a hard copy of this. I see pdf as the only format listed here, however. Was that always the case, or is there a way to get a physical copy?

There is a confusing sentence in the PDF, in the section on Professor Grey and the Akhenaten Fragments (page 15 in v2, page 17 in v5):
"The writer denies that the Sarcophagus *was idol were stolen* from the Moon God Khonsu by Thoth..."
It's explained later that the idol is inside the sarcophagus which opens when the moon shines on it, so should that bit say, "that the sarcophagus *and* (or with) the idol were stolen" or similar?

Hey Joe, my group is rebooting soon with a change of setting. We are switching to modern day Pulp Cthulhu to the university at which we attend (located in the Southern parts of the US). Would this scenario convert well to Pulp modern day on a campus?
Thanks!

I'm really excited to run this adventure, but I have a question about the artwork on page 16 of the Idol itself. It looks indistinct to me. Is the picture supposed to represent the weathered pock-marked remnants of the statue made of the unidentifiable metal? Or the entity that is within the trapped statue?

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
