The Adventure Crafter Deck

Create adventure outlines, seeds, and events for any RPG, in advance or on the spot with The Adventure Crafter!

Based on the DriveThru Platinum selling The Adventure Crafter ruleset, this deck of cards replaces the dice and the book, giving you Adventure Crafter results directly.

This product is a card version of the book and assumes familiarity with The Adventure Crafter system. The guide included here shows you how to use the cards in place of the book, but for a full description on how The Adventure Crafter system works you will need the core book or at least be familiar with it. See below for links to bundles where you can get the Deck with a PDF of the book for a discount.

The Adventure Crafter Deck handles everything the original book handles, including determining Theme priority, random Plotlines and Characters Lists, Theme determination, Plot Points, Turning Points, and Character Crafting.

The Adventure Crafter is a time-saving, creativity-inspiring Game Master tool that works with any role-playing system. With the card deck, determining Plot Points and Turning Points is now easier and faster, making The Adventure Crafter even more useful for solo play than with the book alone.

The PDF download of this product contains a guide in how to use the deck, various configurations to print your cards from including lettersize, A4, and duplex, and a zip file containing individual graphic images of each card and card back for use with card management apps. The print version is the 106 card deck along with a tuck box. The PDF downloads are free when ordered with the cards, so be sure to check the PDF + Cards option when ordering the print deck.

AH! I see what happened. I purchased the pdf of the crafter first... then i decided I wanted the deck since it would be easy to pocket. I ordered the printed cards without the pdf! Can a publisher send me the "free pdf for the crafter deck?"

Do I have all of the images for the cards? The description says 106 cards. I have 73 of the info cards plus the shuffle card and the 5 theme cards. That makes 79 cards. I also have the two backs, but I didn't count them. The info cards are TAC1 to TAC97 but some numbers are missing, like everything between TAC7 and TAC18. There are some other gaps as well. Thanks!

Hi Brian :)

I just downloaded the zip file and all 106 of the images (plus the 2 card backs for a total of 108 images) appear to be present and accounted for. I suggest downloading the zip file again and seeing if everything is in place.

I live in the UK and what with the international shipping and import tax the cost goes through the roof.
Now, I know we can print these out at home, but is it ok to get the deck printed out using a UK company that specialises in printing cards?

Anyone know how to import this onto Tabletop Simulator?
I find I prefer doing my solo RPs on TTS, and like the idea of having access to a deck without actually printing it.

Wonderful piece of genius here, by the holiest of glorious gods!

Just bigger cards next time? My D&D Red Box-old-eyes just can't see the small fonts anymore. In fact, if print a bigger deck Ill buy that one too!

Thank you Valdus for the kind words :) I had really wanted to make these tarot card size. I haven't checked card printing prices in a little while, but at the time it about doubled the cost of the cards. I might still make that an option however.

If you kickstart it, I will kick it in the face.

I am an avid tarot card reader (oh so many stories!) so I am used to paying for good quality up front. It might be a niche but there is so much bang in that buck that it pays for itself on the gaming table or in the stories.

Oh so many stories!

Hi Tana!
I'd like to get started with the Adventure Crafter Deck and print the cards as shipping to Germany is crazy.
My question:
Do the cards have a back side that has to be printed?
I'm asking because I guess the PDF-print format is letter(?).
I'm living in Germany and here the common paper format is A4, which would mean the alignment for double-sided printing would probably not work...

Best regards

Phil

Hi Phil! Thank you for the question. Among the download files is an A4 version of the print and play deck as well as a duplex A4 version.

Hi Jonathan. Yes, there's a PDF manual. I can get that to you. One of the ordering options is the printed cards with the free PDFs. If you selected that, you should have the PDFs in your downloads. If you ordered it without the PDFs, please let me know your email (you can contact me through email through the publisher link on this page) and I'll send you a link to get the PDFs here on DriveThru.

Is it possible to get the individual card images to be split in two, effectively creating two full cards out of each individual picture. I want to load 200 image files into a picture viewer like Infraview and randomize card draws without flipping them. I assume this won't mess up the probability. Like the possibility of the cards so far. Thanks.

Hi Kevin. Thank you for the suggestion. I would suggest duplicating the image files and then importing all 200 cards without flipping them. The entire deck is complete at the default orientation. The reverse orientation is a duplicate of the default set. I do that to double all of the content to make randomization more consistent (to lessen the chance that after you draw one card, that result is not permanently taken from the deck until the next shuffle).

That would give you the result you're looking for without cutting the cards in half and without changing the probabilities.

I hope the cards are working well for you! Happy gaming!

hmmm.... there seems to be something wrong with the print files. The last (duplex) page in A4 does not print with a back side to it. Also, inbetween there seems to be a problem with the embedded graphics, because all of a suddon (pg 26 and onwards) the data volume sent to the printer explodes to a few 100 MB. Took me nearly 1hr to print

Hi Phillip, thank you for bringing this to my attention.

Please double check the A4 duplex file. I see 36 pages in it, with front to back all the way through. However, I am not too familiar with duplex printing so it's possible I made an error in the formatting.

Is anyone else experiencing a delay in printing or problems with the data?

Please post any feedback here or email me directly. If this is still a problem, I'll see about correcting it and making a new file.

I like them a lot. I will get a lot of use out of these. What are the chances of having these as a reverse color scheme so it takes less to print?

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
