Eorathril

From game designer Alan Bahr, comes an old roleplaying game. Eorathril is a collection of classically inspired mechanics, leveraging the legacy of the famous d20 mechanics, forged into a new game that represents the storytelling style and martial roleplaying of yesteryore!

Designed to emulate classic fantasy literature, Eorathril has a martial bent, featuring brave swordmasters, daring knights, fierce barbarians, wise sages and much more! Subtle tweaks to the ruleset, and a compilation of carefully chosen mechanics add to the heroic feel of the game, as well as a very brief primer on Eorathril, the home fantasy campaign of Alan Bahr.

Grab your sword, heft your spear, and prepare for a game of heroic adventures!

The game is heavily based on classic White Box style roleplaying, but features some modern narrative mechanics.

Eorathril is a complete game, and was made possible by the Gallant Knight Games Patrons.

Just a note to say that I bought the pdf for Eorathril yesterday and liked it so much that I ordered a physical copy today.
Thank you for making a great low-fantasy rpg that still keeps the traditional fantasy monsters.

I also like that you adopted the variable dice for weapons to give them more variety and choice.

Last question (I promise!) Looking at the Swordmaster- specifically the Rolling Waves Crash form- it seems as though you might have intended the class to be proficient in Arming Swords too as they have no versatile weapons allowed?

Indeed. An artifact of changing the name.

So I have a question about the Knight class- under their Blade master ability it says they receive a +1 to hit bonus and armor class when wielding a long sword and holding a shield in their off hand. I'm assuming a Knight can use a long sword to full effect one handed? Just making sure, as it's normally a 2h weapon

Just to verify ONLY the Knight class can use the normally two handed longsword as a one handed weapon?

Correct. They can also use the Arming Sword (we've got some errata coming down the pipeline.)

Any word on the errata?
I would also like to suggest a DM screen.

Just got Eorathril and this explains one question I had. Another is, should a Knight have a prime attribute and if so does he get an experience bonus like the other classes?

So, I bought this and I find it very interesting and full of potential, but I have a couple of questions. If this is from your campaign mister Bahr, how do your players deal with healing at lower levels when Sages are spell less and what do they do if someone gets petrified? Also, since there is no raise dead spell I assume this is a permadeath game?
I am just curious, obviously it would be simple enough to include the Priest and Magus classes from For Coin and Blood to cover these issues in a campaign. I look forward to a setting book for this, for if nothing else this provides a bestiary and a world for the aforementioned FC&B.

Hey James!

The game is a permadeath game. Generally speaking, when we play Eorathril, combats tend to occur with some significant space between them. If I want to keep the pressure on, I keep the combat coming, but as you noted, that increases the lethality.

Regarding a setting book, we're currently working on the tentatively titled: "Traveler's Guide to Eorathril", which will have greater detail on the setting, and some new rules (including the travel and setting camp rules, which also expand the healing options.)

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
