Suggested Price $5.00

Disclaimer: These files contain every spell available in the D&D 5th Edition SRD, and are published under the Open Gaming License. The SRD only allows spells from the Players Handbook. If you want spell cards for non-SRD spells or custom content, use the form-fillable Custom document.

Updates

1. A single PDF contains every spell

2. Spells archived individually so you can only print the ones you need (printing instructions below)

PRINTING INSTRUCTIONS

a. Combine desired spells into a single document with an online PDF combiner.

b. Open combined PDF in Acrobat Reader.

c. In the print menu, select Multiple under Page Sizing & Handling

d. Select 4 by 2 pages per sheet and landscape orientation

3. Non-SRD and custom spells can be added in form-fillable PDFs

4. Banner colours represent spell level rather than class

5. Each card lists every usable class

6. Components now indicate when materials are consumed

This project has a few hundred hours invested — mostly in time spent learning and correcting mistakes. If you choose to pay $0 for the cards, that's totally okay, but if you get any use out of my work, I hope you'll consider revisiting and tipping a few dollars for the labor, or  take a look at my monster cards or character sheets.

Hello! I've been enjoying these cards a lot, but for the blank cards I have a few points to consider.

Will you be adding a checkbox for the Artificer on the spell list tabard?
Also, will there be any way of adding an indication of a subclass only spell list allowance? On the already prepared cards, these special cases have the text updated to reflect only that subclass can take the spell. Will the class selection boxes be editable in a future version?

Also, one issue I keep running into is that some spells have a lot more description text than what will fit in the description field, especially when I can't edit the font size. Can you make a universal "spell card back" that just has another field for the spell name and then the entire rest of the card is a larger box for spell descriptions and is otherwise the same size that we can just put on the back of the card when we print it? It shouldn't need one for each spell level, just the name and description continuation....See more

I am having a problem printing the cards. Whenever I open them with a pdf reader or editor it is opening as a 2.48 x 3.56 in document instead of a full page. So I can print one spell and get a card size printout but if I combine the pdfs it only prints one per page or shrinks them down so small that I can't read anything.

It seemed like I did not have this problem when I first started using this 2 years ago.

I tried several methods of combining the cards to print, and at least one of them ended up putting each card on it's own letter page when it combined them. This caused the final print of N per page to have unusably small card images.
I ended up using ghost script to combine them and have it all work correctly. So now I copy all the cards I want combined into one directory and then run this in that directory on my linux system to combine them:
`gs -dNOPAUSE -sDEVICE=pdfwrite -sOUTPUTFILE=../cards.pdf -dBATCH *.pdf`

One of the other methods I had tried removed all the text and customization from the form filled PDFs when it combined them, but did appear to get the size correct.

Hello Mathew,
I just bought the set and they look great. Is there a way to get them to sort so I can print, for example, JUST the wizard cards? We play as a family and my kids are all wizards (I know bad strategy but they are kids what can ya do?) so I don't want to print ALL the cards multiple times. Am I missing a trick on how to do this? Thanks =)

Hi Matthew. I've been trying to create some custom cards for spells in the handbook that are not included in your cards. They show up fine in Adobe Reader and Foxit Reader and I can edit them there. But when I try to merge the files into one PDF (using FlexiPDF Basic), the text I've added to the custom cards disappears.
The same happens if I simply try to open the PDF with FlexiPDF, so it seems that certain PDF tools are incompatible.
Would it be possible for you to indicate which tool or tools you have managed to work with successfully?
Thank you.

This will really help with managing my spells for an upcoming Eberron game with my Artificer. Will non-SRD spells be added at some point?

Hi there

Love the cards. I also use the monster cards, print them out on normal paper and laminate them so I can add temporary notes if necessary.

One comment about the spell cards, they do not have the thick black border around them. The thick border on the monster cards means that when cutting them out for lamination I don't have to be exact (the inside of the border provides a nice square and straight edge to the cards, even if my scissor-work is dodgy). Adding a thicker border to the spell cards would make them much more "lamination-friendly", and not detract from the great design at all.

Just a thought for a future release.

Thanks
Mark

Mark, that's spot on. They actually used to have a big think border (years ago!), but some people pointed out that it was chewing through printer ink. I'm working on a massive upgrade for these card, so I'll keep that suggestion in mind and let you know when they're done.

I love the cards that work, but when I try to print custom cards it prints the first one and the rest are blank. We have tried Chrome, Adobe, IE, Drive, printing to pdf first, and multiple devices. What am I missing?
ETA- I see people are troubled by font size. I worked around it by making multiple cards for a single spell. EG, Ceremony has parts 1, 2, and 3.

Yes, that's the procedure we're using but we still only get the first card and the rest print blank even though they appear correct. We ended up printing one per sheet. Maybe we'll have better luck when I level up. :)

Replying almost two years later, but I ran into the same issue as Michele. Here's a workaround in case anyone else has this same issue:

- Open your edited PDF in Chrome
- Click the print button
- Set the destination to Save as PDF
- Replace your edited PDF with the one saved from Chrome
- Follow Matthew's original printing instructions

Hey I really enjoy your set. Though I got a big problem with the fillable spell card forms.
The text in the text boxes just doesn't resize with the amount of text.
I never can fit the material components or a bigger text inside of these.
I really love the design and would want to continue working with them.
Is there any chance you could make the text responsive?

Late response. Thank you and I gotta say it helped a bit, yeah. Though it would be soooo neat if you could make the text scale automatically with the amount of text. Is that even possible?

I asked for this a while back as well. It’s a simple command to do scale text. Or fit to box. Most of mine need more space as well. With that these would be perfect

Nice cards, but i think you missed Blade Ward. And, I'm also wondering if the images should still appear on the form fill able if they are not selected. Ie black outline boxes. Material component image?

Cheers Allen! I couldn't work out how to get the component images to appear/disappear depending on the checkbox. So it's as designed, I'm afraid. Those spells you mentioned aren't listed on the 5E System Reference Document, so I'm not allowed to publish cards for those unfortunately.

There's a fella named Paul Webber DM who has a big Facebook community for making cards like that. They're not blank, but they might have a template you can use.

Hello Matthew,
I love these cards, but as a DM with german players I can't use these unfortunately. Would it be possible to translate the classes and spell component parts? In german these would be:

[Barbarian > Barbar] [Bard > Barde] [Cleric > Kleriker] [Druid > Druide] [Fighter > Kämpfer] [Monk > Mönch] [Paladin = Paladin] [Ranger > Waldläufer] [Sorcerer > Zauberer] [Warlock > Hexenmeister] [Wizard > Magier]

Spell components would be:

[Verbal = Verbal] [Somatic > Gesten] [Material = Material]

Hi Matt,
The cards are amazing, well worth the price I was just having a problem when making my own spells. I have been unable to save these spells, when opened all changes are lost. I used both the download and save as functions, is there something I'm missing?

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
