Marches Adventure 1: High and Dry

ADD TO WISHLIST >

In High and Dry the Travellers are given a ship in which they can explore the galaxy for the rest of the campaign – the only catch is that they have to find it first.

Travelling to the quiet world of Walston, the Travellers will have to engage with the locals, locate their ship and repair it before they can return home. However, the ship has been left in the crater of a volcano, and there have been tremors rocking the surrounding area for quite some time…

High and Dry is the perfect introductory adventure for Traveller, full of exploration, character interaction and a truly explosive finale!

I've been playing TTRPGs for 39 years, and this adventure is - by far - the worst "introductory" adventure i've ever played. The entire scenario is basically a middle finger to all the fun setting-unique skills and gear. I got the distinct feeling that the author hated for his players to have any fun.
Players being introduced to a space adventure game will be creating a starship crew (like my group did) with all sorts of interesting spaceship-based skills like pilot, engineering and astrogation, and will not be able to utilize any of them for the vast majority of the adventure, because f-you players.
The players will also get all kinds of cool gear during character creation like weapon, armor and exotic equipment, all of which they will have to surrender at the spaceport, because f-you players.
It's a bizarre intro to any game to deliberately disempower your players and force them to only use skills that appear in basically any RPG such as social skills, but f-you players, I guess....See more

The update is missing the stats for the creatures on page 9. It appears that this was corrected for the compiled version of the adventure, could it be fixed on this standalone one as well?

I wrote and ran a similar idea: Some buried docs suggest it had been doing some smuggling when it vanished. Turns out it went down in the mountains after being damaged but their cargo was a biological weapon. Most of the crew died in the accident, but one infected crew member made it to the nearest village. And they all died. Public health got a hold of it before it went too far, but they were forbidden to tell anyone it was a synthetic organism to prevent a panic. It never reappeared, so it has been buried.

The players get the idea of what went on (and won't realize the pathogen is long dead) so they'll play carefully. Then they have to find out what happened to the missing crew member (just to know) and then find salvage help that will get the ship to a downport shipyard to fix the damage.

It started a two year long campaign that was quite a bit of fun.

I loved this adventure, it was my first time as a referee for a Traveler rpg. It won't be my last. It was well written with loads of options and trails to follow and choose.

Is this a new reworked version of the Type-S adventure, and if so how does it compare? http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/57163/TypeS

Just tweaks to the text (you'll find it a bit easier to climb the volcano now!), and a bit of work to the graphics and art. Nothing essential, though you might find it nice :)

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
