Wasteland Wanderers: Fifth Edition Player Options For Post-Apocalyptic Worlds

ADD TO WISHLIST >

This content is compatible with the Fifth Edition of the world's best known d20-based fantasy roleplaying game.

Wasteland Wanderers has mutated! Wasteland Wanderers 2nd Edition is bigger, badder, and better than ever!

Wasteland Wanderers is stuffed full of player-facing content including species, classes, backgrounds, feats, and more. Although designed for use in post-apocalyptic campaign settings, a lot of the content within can be utilised in modern, science-fiction, and in some cases even fantasy worlds with minimal to no conversion effort.

Start a new life in the post-apocalyptic wastes.

Wasteland Wanderers includes ten playable species, as well as sixteen possible sub-species!

The species within include:

  • Humans are found everywhere in the wasteland but are no longer dominant. They can come from a number of origins: Bunker Buddies and Bunker Survivors emerge from protective bunkers into the wasteland, while Wastelanders are born in the ashes of the old world.
  • Bantamites are humanoids who mutated over generations to become a shorter, sturdily-built people.
  • Biosynths are artificial humanoids created by a mysterious organisation to spy on the people of the wasteland.
  • Cats are beasts which make for affectionate if sometimes fickle friends. Sub-species include the Wasteland Cat and the Experimental Cat.
  • Dearg Dubh are mutant humanoids who resemble vampires of legend.
  • Dogs are beasts that can be loyal companions to other wasteland wanderers. Sub-species include the Hound, the Ogre Hound, and the Experimental Hound.
  • Morlocks are mutant humanoids who evolved through a combination of radiation exposure and generations of living in the dark.
  • Ogres are powerful mutant humanoids originally created in experiments to make a super soldier.
  • Robots are machines designed to perform tasks assigned by their creators, but who may now be living an independent existence in the wasteland. Models include the Butlerbot, the Commbot, the Furson, the Mr/Mrs Helper, the Private Helper, the Protectorbot, the Securibot, and the Gen 5 Synthbot.
  • Rotters are humans who have mutated into ghoulish husks after somehow surviving severe or repeated radiation exposure.

Bring a touch of class to a savage world.

Wasteland Wanderers presents six reimagined, reworked, and original classes designed to suit Post-Apocalyptic worlds. The second edition revitalises these classes with updated features, starting equipment packages (for those who also own Wasteland Wares), and 4 archetypes each - except the Soldier, which has 5!

The classes and archetypes within include:

  • The Savage, a class based on the SRD's Barbarian with post-apocalyptic appropriate archetypes including the Berserker, the Bulletstormer, the Implacable Hunter, and the Survivor.
  • The Scientist, a new class which focuses on intellect and expertise. Archetypes include theBotanist, the Chem Cook, the Engineer, and the Programmer.
  • The Scoundrel, a class based on the SRD's Rogue with post-apocalyptic appropriate archetypes including the Con Artist, the Killer, the Rooftop Runner, and a nonmagical variant of the Thief.
  • The Scout, a new class that fills a niche similar to the SRD's Ranger. These wilderness experts rely on their Instinct to enhance their fortunes, and wield a signature weapon known as their Old Reliable. Archetypes include the Avenger, the Beast Hunter, the Bounty Hunter, and the Guerilla.
  • The Shepherd, a new class that fills a niche similar to the SRD's Bard. They are political leaders, officers, and similar inspiring figures. Archetypes include the Chronicler, the Commander, the Regent, and the Tyrant.
  • The Soldier, a class based on the SRD's Fighter with post-apocalyptic appropriate archetypes including the Brawler, the Champion, the Heavy, the Pit Fighter, and the Sharpshooter.

Develop and customize your wastelander.

Wasteland Wanderers provides numerous other options for building your character, including:

  • New skill and tool proficiencies
  • 15 backgrounds, including the Caravanner, Bunker-Born, Con Artist, Courier, Criminal, Doctor, Follower, Orphan, Performer, Raider, Researcher, Scholar, Tribefolk, Underground Agent, and Veteran.
  • 41 feats

The wasteland plays by its own rules.

Wasteland Wanderers includes appendices describing new supplemental rules that might apply to your character, including:

  • Rules for Luck
  • Rules for Radiation
  • Rules for Starvation and Dehydration

Compatible with Wasteland Wares!

Wasteland Wares is a catalogue of post-apocalyptic equipment, and is perfect for assigning your wastelander's gear. Almost all content in Wasteland Wanderers can be used without it, but access to both enables you to take advantage of starting equipment packages and guarantee the weapons you wield work the way a small number of features and archetypes assume they should.

Easily Referenced.

Navigation features include a fully hyperlinked table of contents and bookmarks to all chapters.

Character sheets now available!

After your purchase you'll also have access to 8 character sheets covering various optional rule combinations.

This is a fantastic game book; just wondering if this is available in print somewhere. Thanks for making a good post apocalyptic rpg.

Hi Stacie, thanks for your comment and I'm glad you like the book!

I won't rule it out for the future, but for now Wasteland Wanderers isn't available in print or POD. You are of course welcome to print your own copy for personal use.

Another issue I stumbled across. I don't know if the issue is with my pc or with the files, but I can't fill anything in the customisable Character Sheets. Adobe tells me that the file is in protected mode and no matter what I do, it stays there even if I change the security settings. Tried later with SodaPDF and it asked me for a password, but I don't know where I would find that... Sorry if the answer is obvious and I am just a total noob but nothing I tried worked so far.

I don't know why that would be but I'll look into it. To be honest I'm far from an expert on working with pdf forms and there have been a few problems with these sheets. I'm starting to think they might be more trouble than they're worth until I can afford to hire someone to do it for me, but I'll give it at least one more try!

In the mean time you might also consider making a copy of my google sheets character record for the Fifth Edition Fallout D&D hack (https://bit.ly/3GtO5Gs), which is broadly compatible since my design work for the 5e Fallout hack became the core rules around which the Wasteland Worlds product line are based.

Hi again Johannes,

I'm able to edit and save the sheet just fine in my version of Acrobat Pro, as well as Ashampoo PDF Pro and Foxit Reader. I think the issues you're experiencing might be on your end. Though I'm unable to recreate the problem in Acrobat my googling suggests that Protected View in Acrobat is a security feature to protect you against potentially malicious pdfs. If this is what's happening, then you need to disable it in your software. Find the instructions here: https://helpx.adobe.com/uk/reader/using/protected-mode-windows.html

I have no idea why SodaPDF is asking for a password, I never set one for the file, but perhaps it's a similar feature?

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your response and looking into it. If there is no PW set, the problem must definitely be at my end. Strangely enough, I did disable that feature and it still went on - my wife had the same issue on her PC. It is really weird. But at least now I know that there definitely IS a problem. Will dig further.

Also thank you for the link to the hack. Will use that until the other issue is fixed :-)

Thank you and best regards,
Johannes

Hi Johannes,

DriveThruRPG's publisher relations team reached out to me, apparently there has been at least one other purchaser having trouble with the form fillable sheets. I was advised that it may be an issue caused by the watermarking added to the pdfs. This is currently disabled, so if that *was* the cause of your problem then redownloading the sheet now might fix it!

Hey! Just bought the pdf and I am looking forward to use it for my wasteland campaign. While browsing through it spotted this small mistake. The Tribefolk Background carries the same description as the one for the Con-Man "You’ve always had the knack for figuring
folks out and exploiting that awareness through lies and subterfuge". Unless you are a certain former Tribefolk known for wearing a suit and shooting couriers in the head this doesn't seem universally applicable :-D

Hi Johannes! I've actually flagged that error already (but seriously, thank you for taking the time to let me know)! It will be fixed by the next update, which should be pretty soon actually.

Hello, I've recently started my own campaing and started using the Milestone, geiger counter character sheets and there are some problems with them. The first one is that, for some reason the inteligence and constitution saving throws are linked, by that I mean when you change one, the other changes as well. The skills Acrobatics and Animal handling have their ability modifiers mixed up. It says on the sourcebook that acrobatics uses dex, but on the sheet it's wisdom, the same is for the Animal handling, which is supposed to be wisdom not dex. One last thing I noticed, on page 2 where it says attacks, the text bar for properties for weapon(A) isn't there.

Hi Marco,

Thanks very much for flagging this issue, which is indeed an error. As a quick aside, the error is in Wasteland Wares, *not* Wasteland Wanderers - you posted this comment to the wrong product page!

The Cooking Cost Table doesn't exist (and doesn't need to). The text of the cooking section reflects an earlier iteration of cooking rules which it looks like I managed not to properly update when I revised the rules to include a universal crafting system.

I'll actually be releasing the next updates for each of the Wasteland Worlds product line within the next day or so, so I can include revisions to fix this issue in that update. If your account is set up to receive merchant notifications you'll get an email when I roll out the update, otherwise you can check the product pages sometime later this week!

Will you work on a bestiary supplement for this? Because I just bought the product three hours ago and I am absolutely loving it. Having a bestiary would just be the cherry on top I think.

Hi Marco, I'm working on Wasteland Woes which will contains creatures, traps, and environmental hazards for different types of wasteland. It's in early development though and I don't have an eta.

In the meantime, the site rules forbid me from posting external links but if you search "Fifth Edition Fallout" you'll find a wiki (should be the top result, at least it is on google) with various monsters from the famous video game franchise! They're compatible with the Wasteland series.

There are also many monsters already in D&D that work just as well in a post-apocalyptic wasteland with minimal to no rules conversion, they just need new lore to explain their presence. Humanoid monsters make for good mutants and just need to be re-equipped, and various other monsters work well for various wasteland horrors. About the only thing you might need to watch out for is that the Wasteland series uses a slightly different group of damage types, but conversion is straightforward - there's...See more

I checked out, loved it, thanks for that. Also, the wiki has a bunch of rules as well as a rules pdf with feats not in WW, am I to assume that Wasteland Wanderers is the most updated and I need not use the feats found in the rules pdf such as action boy, chem resistant, etc.?

You're correct, you shouldn't find anything useful in those rules (other than the bestiary) that Wasteland Wanderers and Wasteland Wares aren't already giving you and doing better. The Wasteland Worlds series owes its existence to the design work I did for that hack, but has evolved a lot. When I released the 2nd edition of these books I wanted to make sure they were well worth the asking price, so I made extensive revisions and added a lot of new content.

Not sure if you're still updating this PDF but there seems to be an issue with Shepherd in the latest version in regards to their Command feature. The listed Command points are drastically lower than previous editions and the class features table only starts listing them from Level 2 onwards. Have I missed something in the text that explains this?

Hi John,

Apologies for the late response, there seems to have been an issue with DriveThru's notification system as I never received notice of this discussion.

The classes are playtested to the limited extent possible as an indie publisher, but are actively updated based on feedback. Since they are PDFs, not print, there is therefore potential for errata to be applied and for customers to simply overwrite their old version.

However, I doubt any errata is needed in this case: there should be no possible way for your player to have achieved that.

I can't see a way the scientist's unarmed attack could be any higher than 1, as normal. A 1st level scientist gets only two features: a signature device (nothing to do with unarmed strikes), and a tech bonus to damage rolls using their gadgets (which is only +2 and can't be applied to unarmed strikes anyway).

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
