"Who knows what unknown terrors lurk in the unexplored bushland of Australia?"

Strange stories have recently been circulating in Sydney Town. Tales about a catastrophic event that caused widespread devastation to a staging point along the Parramatta River much used by ferryboat men. According to the lurid accounts of the one surviving man, the shocking destruction was not the product of a terrible storm or flood. Nor was it an uprising of the Aboriginal people. Rather, the doom that came to Five Dock ... came on the wings of a vast mis-shapen insect horror!

Ticket of Leave #10 features a detailed scenario in which convict-era investigators must investigate these ludicrous claims by travelling to the site of the reported devastation -- a remote corner of the colony, on the fringes of settlement. Can the wild stories of insects with 30-foot wingspans possibly signal the discovery of a strange new species? Or could the mad tales of the survivor really mask something even more bizarre? Only by undertaking this most unorthodox "bug hunt" will the investigators reach the truth ... but even then, will they be able to make the colony safe from future harm?

Tickets-of-Leave are self-contained additions to the Convicts & Cthulhu setting for Lovecraftian roleplaying in the early penal colonies of Australia. Each includes a selection of game elements which can either be used collectively as the skeleton of a detailed scenario, or can be used in isolation to provide pieces that enhance a scenario of your own invention.

This is not a standalone product, but relies upon the Convicts & Cthulhu setting also published by Cthulhu Reborn. The Convicts & Cthulhu core book is a lavishly illustrated 96-page sourcebook available in both PDF and print as a "Pay-What-You-Want" title.

Convicts & Cthulhu is designed to allow Call of Cthulhu Keepers and players to run scenarios and campaigns set in the penal colonies of early Australia. It particularly targets the historical period from 1795 to 1810.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
