“This is how EVERY adventure should be written.” -Bryce Lynch, tenfootpole.org

Bring the haunting themes of Edgar Allan Poe to your table!

Baronness Elenore Rennet has yet to return home from a masque at Moldavia Manor two nights ago. Can the players find her and uncover the hideous secrets brooding inside the grim estate of Count Moldavia?

Masque of the Worms is a 1st-level one-shot originally written for a live playthrough by the Castle Mac crew in the courtyard of the Edgar Allen Poe Museum in Richmond, VA. Check out their fantastic performance on the Castle Mac YouTube channel!

This adventure is for 4-6 players and takes 3-5 hours to complete. It's optimized for the live-streaming, one-shot format, but makes for a spooky and thrilling session at any table. It is sure to make even the bravest hearts shudder!

Masque of the Worms includes:

  • Events inspired by Edgar Allan Poe's darkest tales

  • Fast pacing and big reveals ideal for live-streaming and online play

  • Two new monsters sure to chill your blood

  • Combat cards for each monster, PC, and special treasure

  • High-quality digital maps for use with virtual table tops
  • By popular request, a print-friendly version of the adventure

Recipient of The Best rating from Bryce Lynch of tenfootpole.org!

Continue the adventure with the next one-shot in the Edgar Allan Poe series for 2nd-level players, Valley of the Gilded Tower:

The baron’s wife is dead. But she isn’t gone. Can the players lay her to rest and defeat the festering evil hidden away inside the Gilded Tower?

“The adventure is well paced, has maps that you can print out, a great story and good ending. I highly recommend this adventure as a nice stand alone, plug & play adventure, or a follow up to ‘Masque of the Worms'. GMs, you don’t need a lot of prep at all.” -B.J., ★★★★★

I'm obsessively collecting tenfootpole "The Best" adventures. Is there a print on demand version available for this adventure?

Hi Maxwell! I'm so sorry I didn't get your question until now, I seem not to get notifications for the Discussions section of my adventures (will investigate cause). To answer your question, I don't have any print on demand titles out, as of right now! It's a formatting challenge I hope to tackle down the road. Apologies for that, but thank you for asking!

Bryce Lynch waited nearly a decade for this, and even the list of his "good, but not great" adventures are usually orders of magnitude better than the typical fare.

Will follow this author/publisher to see what they do when they indulge in some R.E.H., Vance, etc. Should be fun to get actually usable adventures that don't require a lot of distillation before table use.

Congratulations! You got a positive review from Bryce Lynch at tenfootpole, which doesn't happen very often, especially for 5e adventures. Expect a bump in purchases, including from me.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
