After the initial release of my first InDesign Template, I kept on thinking of ways to improve and enhance it. Which has lead to a complete redesign from the ground up.

What's in the Box?

Everything you need to help get you started with layout for your book. All files are organised into an InDesign Book with individual chapter documents set up for easy management. I’ve also included “torn paper” banner-like graphics, wax seal and stains that you can use to make your pages pop.

Yes, you can use it in any way you wish. No strings. The only image you cannot use is the character.

You can just delete it. Or, when it's selected, you can use File>Place to replace it with your own image.

Try as I might, I can't seem to delete it. I was able to replace one for Chapters on the right corner of the background, but can't seem to select the image on the left-hand corner.

Ahh, OK (lol), select the menu Type>Text Variables>Define and then Edit the Book Title option. Once you do that make sure you Synchronise that page with all the other pages within the book (this will update all the pages so the look the same and have the same styles, etc).

Hi - I just purchased the template believing it contained *.IDML files (compatible with publishing software outside InDesign) and not *.INDD files. I use Affinity Publisher, which cannot make use of *.INDD files.

Can you please consider saving this template in the more flexible *.IDML format? If you are not able to do that, I understand, I will just have to request a refund on the purchase. Thanks in advance for your consideration.

Hi - I bought this - outstanding layout, I hope to learn quite a bit from using it. I have a question about the black pages with the torn edges - are those meant to be black, with the text against them, or is there some tricky wizardry where you use an opacity setting or something to blend in an image where the black is? Just curious. Thanks!

Thanks much, working with the Chapter Mask.psd that way made it really easy to create custom artwork and export to whichever png I needed, i.e. 02 - Introduction.png - and then it updated in InDesign. I've learned quite a bit playing around with your template! Hope you make more!

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
