Stranger Stuff For TinyD6

Adolescent Supernatural & Sci-Fi Adventure Horror Gaming

Using TinyD6 From Gallant Knight Games!

This book has been updated from the original release with new art and doubles the content. If you have already purchased this product, that update is FREE, just download the new files.

Stranger Stuff For TinyD6 is a minimalist tabletop roleplaying game of pop culture-inspired action-adventure, supernatural horror, paranormal terror, and science fiction suspense, where you play as “Kids” in their teens getting into trouble — and hopefully getting out of it! But it’s not just homework and asking someone to the dance that are the dangers the Kids need to face.

Taking influence from popular teen protagonist films and shows in the “kids on bikes” genre, Stranger Stuff For TinyD6 takes the original card-based vs. Stranger Stuff game released by Fat Goblin Games and adapts it to be played using the TinyD6 ruleset from Gallant Knight Games, a six-sided dice-based tabletop roleplaying game with a focus on minimalist rules that are easy to learn for both Gamemasters and Players, so you can get right into the action.

Stranger Stuff For TinyD6 is a complete roleplaying game, with a detailed setting — Crestview Hills, a classic Midwestern town in the 1980s — using the TinyD6 ruleset. It’s written to be equally well suited for gamers new to tabletop roleplaying games as well as seasoned veterans. It “leans into horror elements” and is written to a Teen Gaming Rating (think PG-13 for films or TV-14 for television), but the core rules and support materials are written to be appealing to both young gamers that want to play as “Kids their own age” but in a more fantastical version of reality as well as appeal to adults nostalgic for their time as youths.

All you need is this book, some paper, a few pencils, at least three six-sided dice (3d6), and a few friends to get started gaming today!

The Updated version i just purchased listed section to explore after the basic character creation as copied below from the pdf.

But it does not seem to have nay actual section or reference to "pets" anywhere in the document. It goes straight from the "Clubhouses" to the "Stranger Powers"?

Is this a mistake or is this section just missing?

"
Or you could consider exploring optional more advanced Player options in
the next few chapters like:
- Character Advancement
- Clubhouses
- Pets
- Stranger Powers
- Teen Psychics
- Teen Witches
- Stranger Stuff
"

Hey Lucus here -- author of the book.

I'll need to talk to Rick, late in development cycle we took the Pets section out and I guess on editing passes I missed that we still referred to it.

We did NOT include a Pets section in the core rulebook, though we are hoping to release one via our related Stranger Kids Patreon -- but at this point sorry, you'd need to adapt rules from another TinyD6 game.

just purchased and downloaded. It is a beautiful book, but the zip is messed up. When I extract it to a different drive the folder doesn't have all the files. When I open the book, the bookmarks are just a bunch of random letters and numbers, there are a few hundred of them, then I finally get to usable bookmarks.

Is there going to be a public message broadcast about it the way the PDF was? I want to make sure I don't miss this. I'm kinda surprised you didn't just called it 2.0 or 1.5. This is a pretty massive bump in page count you're doing!

Yeah, it will be emailed and posted on our social media. And yeah, it is a pretty big update and we could probably have just called it a new edition. . . but we didn't want to do that to our fans and make them buy a new book.

You won’t get a site notification like when the pdf files were updated, no. The site doesn’t do that for print, I will send out email/newsletter here announcing it, so make sure you can receive messages from Fat Goblin Games here. That’s the best I can offer.

After getting the rules and a few supplements I have noticed a sorta time-line for the stories that are told between the core (1984), Camp Hope (1985), Something Wicked etc .. is there an official list somewhere of the order you "can" play the stories as they are set out ?

Hey Brian, author of most of these supplements here:

"Release Order" is the "simple version" -- though a number of events are given multiple possible spots.

If you go all the way back to our vs. Stranger Stuff adventures, we effectively consider that 1983, the core book was Fall 1984, most releases have built off from that in roughly order they were originally released, and assuming we do the last few releases I'm currently planning for the rest of this year -- Dec 31st, 2022 will be "canon" Dec 31st, 1986.

In a future release I plan to roughly lay them all out in our proposed timeline but we always tried to build the game with an open-ended "You and your Gamemaster decide the exact timeframe"

Totally understand but wanted to get your thinking on all of this, Thansk .. and thanks too for a cool game, having great fun with it, a little more Goonies and Buffy than Stranger Things but then I am old enough to remember them LOL

Goonies I can see. Buffy -- yeah, I guess I can see that too. Especially when you drag in "Powered" characters and Witches and such.

RE: Stranger Things -- yeah, despite the name, we actually tried to NOT hew too close to that show. Our original vs. Stranger Stuff version had Easy-Normal-Hard Mode that was meant to mimic the Kids, the Teens, and the Adults in Stranger Things more so where the threat level was "Low Chance of Death, Death only if mistakes are made, and Death is likely" but we cut all that for this version for various reasons.

We also haven't "done" our version of the Upside Down and such. We've introduced some of the key elements but we've held back from being too strong a straight copy and are much more "inspired by" the same films that inspired Stranger Things essentially.

The bestiary provides different monster types (alien, cryptid, human, supernatural) and provides standard examples of each. It also provides rules and info for creating your own monsters. Hope that helps!

For anyone who is looking at Stranger Stuff more for the fluff than the crunch, take note that this version does *not* come w/ the Crestview Hills setting.

From pg 56 (the Worldbuilding section):
"For anyone familiar with our vs. Stranger Stuff game written for
the vs. M Engine, the town Crestview Hills is a recurring default
setting for all of our adventures related to vs. Stranger Stuff. For this
iteration of the game, we decided not to reprint all of the details of
Crestview Hill"

What is the difference between "Stranger Stuff" and "vs. Stranger Stuff - Season 2"? Does Season 2 add to the original? Are they adaptations of the same thing for different systems? Or something else? Can someone clarify?

Different systems. Stranger Stuff TinyD6 uses the TinyD6 Engine from Gallant Knight Games. vs. Stranger Stuff - Season 2 uses the vs. M Engine (a playing card-based system)

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
