100 Rumours to Hear in Théah

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Characters may ask around to find out information and this supplement has 100 different rumours that they could uncover. The rumours cover a wide range, from plots to treasures to locations to people. Whether or not any specific rumour is true is up to a GameMaster. The rumours could be used as a source of misinformation, as background colour or as potential adventure hooks.

This PDF supports Adobe layers and the page backgrounds and images can be disabled to make printing easier.

Here are some sample results:

  • There have been disappearances in Charouse, the capital of Montaigne, in recent months. Those disappearing are not all of a type; everyone from homeless to merchants to nobles has vanished without a trace. The only connection between them is that they are never found again and all the disappearances have happened reasonably close to an entrance to the Montaigne Tunnels. There’s a growing belief that something dwelling within the tunnels has recently awoken, and is now preying on those it can find.
  • There’s a group of people from possibly every country who are trying to bring back the old principles of honour. There have always been a few remnants who stood by the principles of old, but now they are trying to get more to do the same. Not that there is anything underhand about what they are doing, for such would be against the code of honour they are promoting. They are more likely to fall victim to those who don’t follow such principles.
  • There’s a plot supposedly by the Rilasciare to assassinate Queen Elaine of Avalon, but this doesn’t seem to fit in with the aims of the society. The Rilasciare want to destroy monarchies, even ones as popular as Elaine’s, but they want to do so by destroying the idea of queens first. The only thing assassinating Elaine would seem to accomplish would be to cast the Glamour Isles into turmoil. So perhaps that’s the point, and someone else is actually behind the plot, someone who wishes to see Avalon weakened.
  • There’s a rumour that someone has claimed to have discovered an actual Syrene corpse. The corpse was not in good condition, of course, and may possibly have been mummified. However, no-one knows who it is who apparently discovered it, nor how to find them. They appear to have disappeared.
  • The Sarmatian Commonwealth is increasing the size of its army, especially the elite winged hussars. It’s supposedly a purely defensive measure, to guard against possible invasion, but the current size of the army has proved effective enough at that. So, increasing the size of the Commonwealth’s armed forces can only be for offensive purposes. Perhaps they are intending to spread Golden Liberty by force.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
