Cavern-Tunnel Multiple Passages Set A (M106-123A)

ADD TO WISHLIST >

The Cavern-Tunnel Multiple Passages group of Naked Geomorphs contains 18 tiles, each with one cavern opening (CD, CSD) and three or more connected tunnels (T).  Sets A and B are completely interchangeable.  I.e., tile M106A can be replaced with tile M106B, without changing the basic structure of your map.  Set A has lots of narrow, one-hex wide, passages branching off the larger cavern area.

Geomorph with 8 columns of 10 vertical hexes and 6 connecting positions

Naked Geomorphs are 10 hexes tall, with vertical columns, and 8 columns wide, trimmed to a rectangular shape. There are six connecting positions on each rectangular geomorph, one on each short side and two on each long side. Tiles may be arranged in a rectangular grid, or in brick fashion with each column of tiles offset vertically one-half tile from its neighbors.

Why "naked"? Because they are undressed or undecorated, allowing you more flexibility in choosing the scale and genre of your maps. Why rectangular 8x10 hexes with 6 positions instead of square 10x10 squares with 8 positions? Because many, many 10x10 geomorphs are readily available and we wanted to provide something a bit different, and because hex grids lend themselves to more organic and flowing boundaries, like tunnels, coastlines, and biomes, and also to star sector maps for interstellar games.

The five position colors and their matching colors

Depending on the tileset, there are five possible colors or phases for each of the six positions on a geomorph: Rock, Space, Tunnel (a rock-space-rock sandwich) are the basic colors, augmented with C (rock-space-space) and D (space-space-rock) to bracket larger runs of open space. Some basic rock/space compatibility rules for adjacent positions produce 1,137 possible colorings from which we select our tilesets. R, S and T match themselves when placing tiles next to each other, while C matches D.

NG tiles are printed eight to the sheet, and provided as double-sided printable PDFs with tiles on odd pages and labels on even pages so you can cut sheets into cards with labels on the back. ; Each NG product supplies two PDFs: one with hex boundaries and the other with sculpted or natural boundaries. The product previews and cover images show the sculpted boundaries. The tiles as-printed measure 2.425" x 3.5" (61.6 x 88.9mm), or the same height and just slightly narrower than a US poker card (2.5" x 3.5" or 63.5 x 88.9mm). When cut out as individual cards, the tiles fit nicely in standard card boxes and cases.

Additionally, each NG project includes a ZIP archive of GIF image files with transparency, sized for use with popular virtual tabletop systems, and a ZIP archive of SVG vector files, nominally sized at 1" (25.4mm) across a hex face-to-face. ; The GIF files look like the sculpted PDF file contents, with transparent areas where the PDF has the hex grid open areas. ; The SVN files contain just the curves separating rock and open areas, and can be recolored, retextured, or edited to suit your needs.

To summarize, each tile is proved in four formats: hex boundary PDF, sculpted boundary PDF, sculpted GIF with transparent open space, and sculpted SVG vector format. ; See our free Guide to Naked Geomorphs for tips and technical info, and check out our full line of Naked Geomorphs!

There are four general series of NG products: Tunnel where all connecting positions are either rock (R) or a tunnel entrance(T), Cavern where all connecting positions are either rock (R) or a larger multi-position opening (CD, CSD, CSSD, etc.), Mixed where connecting positions can be either rock (R), tunnels (T), or a larger multi-position opening (CD, CSD, CSSD, etc.), and Special which don't fall into one of the other series. ; Each specific NG product supplies all tiles with a given type of internal connectivity, and most products are available in two or more completely interchangeable sets. ; Over 600 different tiles are available across the NG product line.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
