Kingdom of Chybisa

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Chybisa is Hârn’s smallest realm but is rich in both history and natural resources. The kingdom sits in the fertile valley of the Ulmerien River, where a succession of cultures across two millennia have woven a complex cultural tapestry. The kingdom’s story is one of ebbs and flows, with intrepid settlers, lands lost to barbarians, invasion and assimilation, secession and intrigue.

Surrounding the kingdom are the ranges of three barbarian nations. While the Bujoc to the east are wary and few in number, the Hodiri in the south and Pagaelin in the north are among the most populous and aggressive tribal nations on Hârn.

Relations with the kingdoms of Kaldor and Melderyn are peaceful if somewhat strained, for both have claims to Chybisa. Although neither seems inclined to press their case, the situation worries King Verlid VII. Oaths sworn and broken by Verlid’s father lie at the root of these claims and are also a matter of contention with elements in the Church of Larani.

The internal and external pressures on Chybisa provide opportunities for those brave enough to grasp them. The only bridge across the Ulmerien is at the royal seat of Burzyn, giving Chybisa control over trade along the Genin Trail between Melderyn and Kaldor. The rich mines in the Anadel Highlands are threatened by man and beast. Wars and plagues have left a number of abandoned and ruined manors ripe for resettlement. Ancient mines and fortresses of the Elder Folk lie waiting to be discovered.

Kingdom of Chybisa is supplemented by other Columbia Games publications, including castles, keeps, and adventure sites to give GMs and players unending possibilities for adventure.

A 34-page pdf "on sale" for $12. Have they found a way to apply gold leaf to electronic documents?

As long as people buy it at that price, they will keep on doing it; it's up to us to change that.

The price tag on this products are just completely and utterly absurd, surreal.

My sentiments exactly! I have no clue where they get off thinking that anyone will buy into them at this price. 25 bucks for 34 pages is outrageous!

Thats kind of Columbia games in a nutshell. I know myself as well as a couple friends for example are amazed by some of the work we've seen and how detailed it is. However because of the price for us to get invested it just isnt worth it when there are plenty of other systems and settings where we can get far FAR more for the price. Somebody at Columbia needs to look at a basic supply and demand graph and realize they are at the point where they sell some copies for a high price but they would make more overall by selling many more copies at a lower price.

Not only that but they charge the same for the pdf that they charge for the print copy, that's crazy.

There's a reason why this setting with such superb detail is so little known: because it costs a fortune to acquire the materials. Their 'adventures' are often dry as dust and extremely simplistic.

Yep. I agree completely. And I like Harn. Good thing I just mostly use it for the maps. So I keep my purchases minimal. If they reevaluate their PDF pricing, then I might feel ok about buying more from them.

Just join their quarterly club and buy from their website ... all the PDFs are 1/2 price and you earn credit to apply to future purchases with every purchase plus you get a bunch of free product every quarter. Given the level of quality and attention to detail in their products when compared to most other RPG products I have no issue with their pricing.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
