GM's Maps #93:Livery Stable

Map making can be time-consuming and sometimes frustrating for GMs, especially GMs with limited time to begin with. In our new 'GM's Maps' range, we will be providing a range of pre-made maps for you to use in your games.

Just as your heroes need inns or motels to rest in, so their riding animals need to be taken care of. Livery, or boarding, stables have everything the discerning horse owner could need. From horse feed to a safe place to rest, grooms and stablehands to take care of your precious animal and all at a reasonable price!

Short or long stay possible, board your animal here permanently if you don't have room at home or just a night or two while in town on business or passing through.

Gm's Map #93 Livery Stables contains basic, printer-friendly, versions of the map with or without numbering and a grid as well as a two versions in full-color of each floor (Ground and loft), version 1 is historical/fantasy and version 2 is a modern option. The PDF also includes instructions for sizing the map in one of the most popular VTT programs, a key to the map, and of course a dozen adventure ideas for you to expand if you would like to.

Some examples of the adventure hooks;-

4/. Straight from the Horse’s Mouth (By Patrick Heaviside)

A shapeshifter has been forced to take the form of a horse by a wizard as a punishment and bound with a set of run inscribed tack to keep them in that form.

They can only go where their magic bridle leads.

Not until the silver horseshoes on its feet have trod over the four corners of the world will the curse be lifted.

Will you buy their freedom from their current owner and help them on their journey?

11/. They Speak to Me When I’m Alone (By Kevin Morris)

One of the local boys is always in trouble. He is a stable hand at the livery stables and swears the horses speak to him, whispering ideas and telling him to do things and that he can’t resist their powers for long. Of course, it is all fanciful excuses. Or is it? Perhaps some evil spirit is lurking in the stables and speaking through the animals to the impressionable youth.

12/. The Four Grooms of the Apocalypse Daniel Dunlavey

War, Famine, Plague, and Death are having a quick pint in the inn across the road before an apocalypse, only the PC Stable Boys stand against the end of the world, armed only with a hayfork, grooming brushes and saddle soap - can they do it?

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
