DD 2: The Diceless Wilds

ADD TO WISHLIST >

It’s the long-awaited expansion to Diceless Dungeons!

Yes, diceless is leaving the dungeons, and it’s a whole new world out there!  A world filled with new challenges and new things for your diceless characters to do:

Play non-human characters both ancient and powerful…

Learn new talents or wield new high sorcery…

Employ miniatures for visual spectacle…

Take on hirelings for a truly tactical experience…

Face an array of new monsters and new takes on old ones…

Make your combat more unpredictable than ever…

And uncover new artifacts, from the demonic to benign to saintly!

The Diceless Wilds greatly expands the game, both above and below ground, and allows for high and low fantasy settings.  Diceless means the story comes first, but that personal decisions always matter.  It’s the perfect blending of rules, rulings, and narrative, and The Diceless Wilds adds all of this to your old-school toolkit…

Hello, not sure I understand this rule : "On the other hand, their impressive size allows the user to suffer one wound and then ignore it once per combat, normally within the first round of injury". Does it mean the user suffers one wound at the start of fight, and ignore one wound later ? Or does it allow to skip several wounds on a round ?

Great question Geoffrey! During a round, the referee declares how many wounds the enemy delivers, and the players divide this among their characters as they see fit. In other words, each player decides when their characters are wounded and by how much. Those with a two-handed melee weapon may take one wound per combat encounter and then ignore it, which helps both the party and themselves. Normally, this rule is invoked during the first round in which they elect to take wounds, but maybe not. As the party never knows how many wounds are coming, there might be some benefit to holding this in reserve. Of course, if there are multiple combat encounters in a given adventure, the player may use this ability once during each, which can really add up in the dangerous world of Diceless Dungeons. Hope this helps!

James: unfortunately, it’s still not clear to me how two-handed weapons impact combat. Does this suggest that the wielded bears the point of damage in one round but then is exempt from damage all other rounds? Or is this simply to say that the wielder may negate a point of damage during combat?

The character reduces damage taken by one point (or wound). For instance, if they take 3 wounds, they only suffer 2. This happens once per combat, normally during the first round of battle, but can be invoked again at the start of each new, separate combat, which adds up. Hope this helps; but please let us know if you have other questions...

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
