From Ironlands to Icelands!

Each Flavor Pack is a fan-made, unofficial supplement for the Ironsworn game system.  They are ~50 page books designed to reskin the setting of Ironsworn to get even more mileage out of Shawn Tomkin's wonderful game.  Each book contains lore for the reskinned regions, at least ten new assets, new quest starters and truths, new foes, and name oracles.

This product is inspired by mythology from Norse culture and includes the PDF book, individual asset cards as PNG files, and two Print N' Play PDFs of the assets (one original version and one printer-friendly less ink version).

One of my main goals for my Flavor Packs was to encourage players to explore other cultures outside of the typical western medieval fantasy setting.  I know that I learned a ton of cool things while doing the research for these, and I hope that you will be inspired to incorporate ideas from other cultures into your games in appreciation of the huge breadth and diversity of creativity that every culture has to offer.

Physical Book and Cards Available ~Q4 2021

I'll be consolidating all five currently available Flavor Packs into a physical book that should be available by Winter 2021 at which time I'll create a single asset pack for printed versions of all the assets cards.

This is awesome! I really like the idea of using the Futhark for oracles.
I'm wondering if I'm missing something though. Are the cards considered chapter one? My Icelands book starts with chapter two.
Thanks so much for putting such care and detail into this!

Sorry for the confusion! Icelands are Chapter 2 of the upcoming physical book Ironsmith: Flavor Packs Volume 1 which will consolidate all four of the current Flavor Packs plus the new one I'm almost done with. So the Chapter 2 you see is Chapter 2 of 5 of the upcoming physical book. You're not missing anything! If you download my other Flavor Packs (African, South American, and Japanese), you'll get Chapter 1, 3, and 4. I hope to finish Indian/Hindu which will be Chapter 5 in the next couple of months.

Ok, sweet! I'm excited to play with this flavor pack and am drooling over the idea of the South American one as well. World mythologies are kind of a hobby/edutainment topic for me so these all fit right in.
Thank you again for putting so much love into them!

These are great, with many of the Norse beasties I had added, too. But I would suggest making the back of the cards a little less toner / ink intensive for the PNP versions. Thanks!

Thank you for the suggestion! I always forget to make a printer-friendly version, but I just finished one for all the Flavor Packs and got them uploaded. You should be able to download it now. Thank you again!

Hi Eric. Have you considered a Saxon or Celtic Flavor Pack? I am fascinated with using the chaos after the Romans retreated from Britain as a fertile setting for adventure.

I'll add it to the list! I have a backlog of several Flavor Pack requests that I hope to start working on in earnest over the summer. Thanks for the interest!

Thanks for catching the glitch! The free version is set to public, so I’ll have to pass this along to DTRPG tech. Hopefully they’ll get it fixed soon. Thanks!

Check the text on Skofnung, I'm not sure it references the right weapon on the card.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
