Tome of Horrors 2020 (5e)

ADD TO WISHLIST >

From the gargantuan, aquatic afanc, a hundred feet in length, to the eerie sphinx zombie bound by magic to guard forbidden lore, the Tome of Horrors 2020 provides you with a wealth of beasts and legends to stock the forests, dungeons, skies, and oceans of your world. Creatures of the underworld, denizens of the elemental planes of existence — they’re all to be found within the covers of this compendium!

Necromancer Games is proud to bring you this resource for the Fifth Edition of the world’s most popular role-playing game!

There are two versions of the PDF: a reading copy and a reference copy. The reading copy is set up like a book, with pages side-by-side the way you see them in print. The reference copy, on the other hand, is formatted page-by-page in case you want to print individual pages. We recommend using the reading copy for fullest visual effect but depending on the device you’re using and how you refer to a monster book, some people may find the reference copy more convenient. Enjoy!

Hi Daniel. It does not have an encounter table. I don't think this is a great book for those, 10 pages of dinosaurs, 40 pages of demons and devils, etc. Some REALLY neat stuff, but more "man, remember that time we fought THE..." than "fits well in a random wilderness table".

But I will (just as I did on your other question) plug https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/1618/The-Mother-of-All-Encounter-Tables

Happy gaming,
Laramie

Hi, this is a great supplement, although I wish a slightly larger text font size had been used - there's room for it on most pages.

But in addition to all the creative new monsters, and a few pulled from previous editions that have not made it into official 5e yet, you also include a few monsters that ARE already in 5e? Such as the Groaning Spirit (banshee), Cave Fisher, Quickling, Vargouille, some of the dinosaurs and Arch Devils? It seems like it would have made sense to leave these out and leave room for a few more of your innovative creations.

Sorry, now I understand that it gives access to those using SRD.

John, thank you, but that's not actually what I was asking, what I want to know is what is the different between this product #333449 titled Tome of Horrors 2020 (5e) and the product #262176 titled Tome of Horrors (5e), the URL is https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/262176/Tome-of-Horrors-5e if that helps any.

Wow!! Labelling it (2020) makes it seem like an updated version. I'd have bought this ages ago if you'd called it Tome of Horrors 2 (5e)

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
