In Mercenary – Fractured Land (MFL) you take on the role of a Mercenary Commander charged with sending a Squad of Operatives into the Neutral Zone – a theatre of conflict in the centre of the former United States.

Choose your Operatives and their Specialities then equip them with Weapon Systems, Countermeasures and Defenses. Setting up your Squad gives you the potential for over seven thousand combinations of unique Operatives. Experiment with what works, but ensure only the best make the cut for your final five.

Hit the Neutral Zone hard and play the hand you are dealt, adapting your battle-strategy whilst keeping rival Squads down scope. Once you have achieved all you can, Extract with your PayDay intact and achieve Victory.

In this fractured land the strong survive, but the best get paid.

Look, this is neither a skirmish game nor an RPG. It's far too abstract to be either. There aren't any miniatures involved. There's no game table. It doesn't feel complete. I'm sorry, but I want my 5 bucks back.

Firstly, you are well within your rights to pursue a refund and I hope it is dealt with in a timely manner for you. I presume this is requested via in the first instance. I haven't had to deal with a refund as yet, so I thank you for the oppurtunity to learn about that.

If at any point the process does not run smoothly, please email me directly at I will be happy to arrange a direct PayPal transfer to you.

In terms of how the game "feels", I apologise if you feel misled in some way. I will add to the description that there are no miniatures involved and that a table is not required - however I would like to stress that over 60% of this game is previewable, and nowhere within that preview does it state these items are required or included. I'm not sure what gave you the impression that they were.

As to what constitutes a Skirmish/RPG game - a simulated conflict resolved with a set of rules is absolutey all that is required...See more

Look, I design these for a living. All I'm saying is, this is not anyone's idea of an RPG or a Skirmish game. It's just not. It's an abstract game. I'm not clear at all what it's intent is. It seems to me it's largely a list-building exercise resolved later with 2d6? The operatives, if I read the game correctly, really only function as a whole unit. So, not an RPG as such. There aren't ranges, or a battlefield as such, so not skirmish. There's a very good idea here, but you're presenting it wrong IMO. I think it needs more to be a complete game. I'm not worried about the five bucks. I just feel you need to tell the buyer what this is.

I respect your opinion and you have got me thinking. What I will do is make this product entirely available to preview so potential buyers can make a 100% informed decision. The idea of even unintentionally misleading a customer makes me incredibly uncomfortable.

I do stand by my own definition of what constitutes Skirmish and RPG, and with polite respect you haven't convinced me otherwise.

From one creator to another I do appreciate your time and you expressing your thoughts. Our exchange will of course remain, and can be another tool for potential buyers to make up their minds. I think the majority will agree with you. The minority who want to try something a bit different will be in for some pretty in-depth gaming, and that's all I'm ever trying to achieve.

Fair. I'd be curious to see a write-up of one your game session to see how it plays out. Some kind of battle report or AAR would be cool.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
