Lowlife 2090 is a d20 based tabletop RPG of Cyberpunk & Sorcery set in 2090.

It combines fierce combat, dangerous magic, flexible PC customisation, and fast, integrated hacking in one tidy tome.

I backed the Kickstarter and overall really like what i see so far. But there is one thin which really bugs me and i am not sure if i get this right.
It's the usage of class talents.
Under Talents it reads that you get one usage of a talent per job per level. Do i understand that right? One. Usage. Of a talent at Level 1 per job/mission/adventure?
So at Level 1 a Hacker can do one hack per adventure. The Mage can cast one spell per adventure.
Seriously? I mean we all play RPGs for fun and doing cool things. That would be Cyberpunk RPG - The Anti-Fun.
Or do i misinterpret this?

Patrick that is kind of correct. A PC "starts an adventure" with a number of uses of their class abilities equal to their level. So, yes, a 1st level Hacker has 1 Hacking use when they begin a job. A 5th level Hacker starts an adventure with 5 uses of Hacking. Very importantly however - PCs can regain uses of expended class abilities by taking short and long rests. So even a first level Hacker can get multiple uses of their Hacking ability over the course a job - they just need rests to regain them.

Note however that Lowlife 2090 is a level based game, and 1st level PCs are intended as "entry level" criminals with limited special abilities, cyberware, etc. After a few levels (especially with bonus +1 use for human), the PCs will seem to have plenty of class ability uses, cyberware abilities, etc. The other thing to bear in mind is PCs can often get by with just their skills, gear, and wits (and, if need be, combat exploits). THX for the swift answer!
But compared to LFG the Short Rest is not as powerful. Especially if you have a look at the Hacker who completely looses his reason for being when he has expelled his Talent uses.
And also regarding Cyberpunk missions, often there won't be any time to rest for a hour to regain uses. Also finding a safe space during a mission, resting there for a hour and having the chance to regain just up to two uses AND all of this is just possible after a meaningful combat ... seems overly harsh to me, even for an OSR System. For all classes, but especially for the Hacker.
LFG in comparison is much more forgiving.

Of course this is just a matter of point of view, and of course i can houserule this.

Like i said, i love LFG and i really like LL90. Good job!

So, I'm borrowing a copy of this book from a friend and I'd like to get a bit of game-play experience on this game before I give a more in-depth review the game. However, I do want to address how much I dislike the Character Creation process for this game. I could go into more detail but I'd rather save that for after I've gotten enough of an experience of the whole game and give my review, or if someone asks me to go into detail now.

Bummed to hear you don't like the character creation process Armand. Random PC creation isn't everyone's cup of tea. You could always modify it so that your players can choose everything, but that would increase PC creation times significantly.

The random aspect is a neutral aspect that I have no say on. There's many other, more egregious reasons why I dislike this process, and if you'd like what I have to say as constructive criticism, I'd be glad to oblige.

Now honestly, I love the idea of a more streamline version of Shadowrun, and I intend on holding off my full review until I've experienced the game more, but as is, this character creation process can't be ignored.

No review at present. A few questions first. First and foremost...what's the point? Is this supposed to be system agnostic plug into Shadowrun version whatever? Or is it supposed to be it's own thing? It is high tech, low-life, and fantasy elements so it seems on its surface to be a plug in for that unicorn of all unicorns a set or rules that actually work for the SR systems. However, when I start to read I feel like I have fallen into the OSR hole where the answer always seems to be "its up to the GM". As a system to use for SR products or just Cyberpunk in general there as so many systems that are incomplete. Living standards are mentioned but not given a reason for being, let alone given a use. Is that because we are expecting to just use something from another system? The gear costs don't seem to take any sort of economics into account. Cold Iron...a cold iron weapon costs 2500 coin more than normal. Cold Iron ammunition costs 1000 coin more than normal...per round? per box of 20? 50? 100? The setting...See more

Hi Dillard, thanks for your comments. Lowlife 2090 is its own thing: a cyberpunk sorcery game set in a verticity inside effectively post apoc badlands. Some answers are GM's call by design as you note; this is to keep the game flexible and from getting too crunchy. We still consider it a "medium crunch" game however. Some costs, eg cold iron, are for game balance reasons, not economic ones. The setting tables etc are intended to aid GM improv in the city. Some are adventure seeds, some are encounters, some are colour and movement, etc. I hope this helps.

I know you are planning to make adventures about once a month. Do you think you would/could do some stuff to flesh out some of the factions? Or create an Adventure generator? I like the original Punk idea of taking on the Man (the bully, oppressor, power and control freak) etc. The criminalization of Cyberpunk has been a turn off. Are you planning on making an Astral World a la Shadowrun?

Dillard yes we will definitely be fleshing out some of the factions by involving them in some Adventure Frameworks :)

I dont think we'll do an adventure generator - I suspect there are some good cyberpunk ones out there already, Stars Without Number would probably cover many aspects of this, actually, I'm not sure.

No plans for any astral equivalent.

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
