Real shame the devs wanted to do virtue signaling instead of just making a great game.

In new PDF version, the beginning large Letter on the chapter is covering text and it doesn't look like it is supposed to, having some strange brown shape covering the text. Tried Google Chrome and Edge browser. Only reader so far that displayed it correctly for me is Acrobat Reader DC.

I made a video review/overview of Dune! Generally, I liked it very much. You can check it out on YouTube here: https://youtu.be/zXnPS0u573s

Dave, thanks for all your videos. You always manage to summarize a game in an easy to digest fashion, and lay out the high points really well. I've started to essentially take your praise of a game as "buy" recommendation, especially when the theme of the game hits close to my interests. Your review of Dune's unique focus on multi-character control, and the overall theme definitely helped make up my mind on this title! Cheers from Canada!

In the Adventure Infobox is the Sentence: "However, if you have the Heirs of Dune you might play this adventure after completing the Starter Set as part of the ongoing campaign as the player characters go about managing their new fiefdom".

Was Heirs of Dune published somewhere? I couldn't find any information to what this is referencing to?

It may be referring to Children of Dune, perhaps? The 3rd tom of the chronicles.

Wow. They didn't credit Adam Koebel at all? Even though he was involved with it for years?
Customer avatar
Janne P April 19, 2021 4:35 pm UTC
Per public announcements from both parties last year Adam's contributions were removed from the game so there's nothing left to credit.

Is the RPG specific and ONLY tied to Arrakis or is it possible to set your campaigns in other parts of the Imperium?

Ten other planets are detailed in the game, and there has been some suggestions that the scope of the game will increase with as-of-yet-unannounced supplements. The default of the game is set in Arrakis, during Harkonnen rule (just prior to the first book), but all the novels are discussed. You could potentially set them in any era, and with different planetary locations involved. Indeed, when you are designing PC Houses, there is an expectation that they will detail their own home planet.

I think this a beautiful RPG. I was inspired to download the original novel and read it in anticipation of the movie.

Hey folks!
Assuming I'll read the first book at least asap and that I've the old movie as a very loooose reference (can't remember that much about it)... Is this book doing a great job even for non "fans"?

Yes, it does. It conveys all the necessary information (and then some) without overloading the reader. The images are evocative and there is a useful timeline. The game itself focuses on the time just before the first novel, "Dune" and it is rich on detail and presentation of the background of the story (the imperium, the schools, etc.). If you want more details on the game and its presentation style, you can just read the reviews on this site, they are quite informative.

Skimming through the PDF I found a lot of reflow in the text in the Index and other areas. I hope this gets fixed by Modiphius soon since the reflow renders the text to be unreadable.

It seems that the problem was the device I was viewing it on. I'd never had a problem with it before but the files were fine.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
