Godstar

An Epic SF Setting for Cepheus Engine: Godstar.

Within the Million Sun Empire sits a desert world orbiting a sentient star: god-himself-the Godstar. Pilgrims flock to it with their offerings. The Godstar's oracles gives out advice, formulae, prognostications and strategy. It is a holy world. But war forced industrialisation on the planet Aurelia, causing social tension and conflict.

A new noble house, House Pelinor, has been granted the fiefdom of Aurelia, but it has many enemies: the local Utani Sand Men, the priests of the Church of the Godstar, the rival House Arakan that it deposed, local crimelords and even the Skygazers, those wandering mystics who claim to speak with the Godstar as they meditate whilst staring up at the blazing disc. They have paranormal powers.

Uses the Cepheus Engine rules, 70+ pages, well illustrated, with maps, factions, desert survival rules and gameplay advice. Use it as an alternate setting where personal shields have rendered guns obsolete and brought back duelling and sword combat OR use Godstar as a standard TL 13 world that can be dropped into any CE or Classic 2D6 SF subsector with ease.

"I am against my brother. My brother and I are against our cousin. My brother, my cousin and I are against our neighbours. All of us are against those who come from off-world."
- Utani Proverb

Is this Dune with the IP filed off?

It feels a lot like Dune with the noble houses, imminent revolution, preponderance of melee combat and the desert location ... but it has none of the IP trappings of Herbert's work. With little work you should be able to adapt it easily.

This is a really neat setting from what has been shown so far in it. And the technological changes for it make me want to learn a little more about the space travel aspect of it.

Like are privately owned ships only a domain of the rich? Are tramp freighters a thing or are such craft owned by small companies instead?

I also wish we got to see some descriptions of places like the "Golden Souk" for example in the map area.

The history of the Million Sun Empire is also interesting, especially with the overall "Kubcan" culture that permeates it.

It seems like the repulsor screen was developed *early* on in this setting's history, to the point maybe there had never been something like sandcasters in the past :D. Is it something even standard civilian ships have?

All unanswered ... which means your preference is king! Zozer tried to keep the setting tightly focused on Aurelia ... but expanding it in ways that you fancy is part of the fun! I can imagine families owning tramp freighters, like that episode in DS9, was it Sisko's family? Everything in the setting revolves around clans and families and aristocratic noble houses. In my humble opinion ... :)

Do you plan on more supplements for this setting? Like exploring the Crater Cities more? All the locations in it sound neat and exotic. :D

As for the capital of the Million Sun Empire, I assume it isn't Earth?

No, Earth I think is a distant memory... as for supplements, I intended this as a single setting book.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
