100 Staircases to Find in a Dungeon

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Staircases are common elements in dungeons, and other constructions, used to get from one level to another. These staircases may be carved out of rock, with varying degrees of skill, or may be partially or wholly artificial in nature. This supplement has 100 different staircases that can be used to decorate a dungeon. Some of the results describe full staircases whilst others describe oddments and features of those that would otherwise be ordinary. The staircases can be used to enliven existing staircases or perhaps be a source of potential adventure hooks.

This PDF supports Adobe layers and the page backgrounds and images can be disabled to make printing easier.

Here are some sample results:

  • Many of the steps have chips knocked out of them and small fragments of rock and dust dot the stairs, where it appears something large and heavy has tumbled down them.
  • Many small holes pierce the steps and a draft is coming from them.
  • Metal spikes stick out through holes in many of the steps, seemingly from a trap that has been triggered.
  • Molten rock has flowed down the stairs at some point before cooling and setting. Waves of solidified rock cover parts of many of the steps, making them slippery.
  • Mould and shelf fungi spring from the walls and clusters of mushrooms dot the steps.

One page is the front cover, one the front matter and most of one is ads.

The supplement is also available in the following versions: Castles & Crusades and Pathfinder. You do not need both versions.

Will you be adding this and a whole bunch of the other "100..." PDF's into a bundle? I liked most of those since I sometimes get tongue-tied when describing rooms and such. But to purchase these individually is a pain in the butt. It would be nice if you joined a bunch, if not all, of them in a bundle pack. Just a thought.

I intend to, but keep forgetting! I plan to start grouping some together, thematically, starting with older supplements. There will probably be multiple bundles, because it's actually more of a pain adding supplements to bundles than it is to a shopping cart.

Just reading this, do you folks need a proof-reader? There is no word anti-clockwise (page 1 #8) Counter-clockwise or widdershins are the correct word appropriate here. Otherwise a wonderful purchase

Thanks! Anticlockwise is a word primarily used in British English, so most may not have come across it before. Though I will say that, no matter how many times you check something, errors always seem to creep through. I think they deliberately hide.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
