100 Hooks and Rumours for Gods of the Fall

ADD TO WISHLIST >

This supplement has 100 different rumours that characters could hear in Gods of the Fall, perhaps when seeking other information. These can be used as background colour or as adventure hooks. They are similar to the According to Prophecy sections found in the setting book, though none have been associated with a specific prophecy. Whether or not a specific rumour is true, and what prophecy it might be related to in such a case, is up to the GameMaster.

This PDF supports Adobe layers and the page backgrounds and images can be disabled to make printing easier.

Here are some sample results:

  • The cursed terrain of the Ruinscape is a genuine danger to travellers who do not detect it in time; sometimes the terrain warps and twists but at other times it does not. Some travellers have recently claimed that certain patches of cursed terrain are spreading. Growing in size, expanding past their previously known boundaries, something that makes the terrain an even greater hazard, as it makes formerly comparatively safe routes more dangerous.
  • The Crypt of Pale Delight in Cryserech offers services that would require indulgences elsewhere in the Nightland, if they were not banned outright. The services are offered by willing people, not slaves, and the Pale Crypt seems to be as above-board as such a place could possibly be. There is a suggestion that this is not entirely true. The above-board proprietor, Evening Glory, pays careful note of who uses what services in the establishment, especially those used by visitors from out of town, who may be participating in things that would cause them great problems if it was discovered in their home regions.
  • The Deeps are or, rather, were, protected by magics that kept each Deep in stasis until the Fall, which seemingly damaged the protections enough that the stasis began to fail. More and more creatures are awakening from their stasis, though the magics have lingered on so far. However, there's a rumour that the stasis magics have started to fail at an increasing rate, and if true, that could mean that every creature within the Deeps could soon be about to wake.
  • The Dome of Mists in Hornscar is a place visited primarily by the Scarred to smoke crystal wonder, a drug that grants euphoria to the smoker. Zarama, the Scarred that runs the Dome, has until now been content to supply the drug to those who visit. There's a rumour, though, that Zarama is looking to expand operations by supplying the drug to other locations in the Nightland.
  • The Echoing Caves are a dangerous series of caves on the coast of the Sea of Shadows that are reputed to hold an ancient tomb. There are various legends as to what the tomb contains and the caves are protected by enough magic, as well as ghosts, to suggest that this is true. Recently, someone has claimed to have discovered the true nature of the tomb's occupant, and that they are not dead, only ensorcelled in a slumber, and that this was done by the dead gods because the being was too powerful to destroy but too dangerous to leave loose.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
