100 Roaring 20's Treasures - Vol 1 - Bearer Bonds

ADD TO WISHLIST >

In the United States, bearer bonds were first introduced in the late 1800s, to fund Reconstruction during the post-Civil War era. They were instantly popular, since they are easily transferred and millions of dollars were issued using relatively few certificates, simplifying transactions.

This system agnostic list of 100 bearer bonds (and their attached coupons) will let you add this kind of wealth to any Roaring 20’s / Gangster setting. How they work: Bonds are a debt vehicle to help a company or government raise capital. Anyone with the money was able to buy a bearer bond, and unlike other bonds, their ownership was anonymous (like cash). Coupons are included so that they can be redeemed at preset interest rates on an annual basis. The bond itself can be turned in for cash at any time, but any coupons that haven’t matured are worthless. There is no legal recourse if the bearer bond or coupons is lost, stolen or destroyed (like cash). This list assumes that these were issued by the US government, but the GM can decide another company or nation authorized any bearer bond to raise capital. If the company or nation collapses, then the bonds are worthless. NOTE: Need old bearer bonds from the 19th century? The product 100 Western Treasures - Vol 4: Bearer Bonds is completely compatible with this one, except it has bonds at lower values to reflect the reduced buying power.

This Roll Percentile list has one hundred possible results in this format:

Roll result: Value of the Bearer Bond / Number of Annual Coupons at a certain interest rate (Actual Coupon Value)

Example 101: Bond Value - $800 / 4 Annual Coupons at 9.4% each ($75.20) NOTE: Total value of this bearer bond + coupons is $1100.80.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
