The Hammer and The Stake: The Workers' Primer (Player's Quickstart)

ADD TO WISHLIST >

PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS NOT THE FULL RULEBOOK!

The Workers' Primer contains ONLY the basic rules and character creation.  This book is designed to allow players who do not want to pay for the full book to get into the game at a discounted price.

The Full Manifesto is the core book with all the rules (basic and advanced) + setting background.

The Hammer and the Stake is a stand-alone tabletop roleplaying game with a core mechanic that focuses on player cooperation and wagering to overcome obstacles.

The Workers' Primer is designed to introduce the game to new players.

A fantastic alternate history setting: Following the Great War and the disastrous Treaty of Trianon, Count Dracula engineers a fascist vampire-coup in Hungary and Romania and establishes himself as the autocrat of the newly created Nagy-Magyarország ('Greater Hungary').

Proletariat freedom fighters work to overthrow Dracula's despotic-aristocratic regime. The threat is very real, Dracula's magic is powerful enough to make manifest the worst fears of Marx.
Time is of the essence. If Dracula's minions are left unchecked, the people will literally lose their identities and become lumpenproles - beaten down degenerate servants of the Dracula regime.

You play one of the heroic socialists fighting to liberate the people from both the invisible hand of Adam Smith as well as despotic vampire overlords.

+++

Inside the Worker's Primer You Will Find:

- The Core Rules for the Hammer and The Stake.  Enough to start playing right away.

- A quick overview of Dracula's Nagy-Magyarország ('Greater Hungary') and the brave socialists that refuse the vampires' regressive vision.

- A seperate file with a hi-res version of the character sheet (free!)

Burn it.  To The Ground.

Note: This is NOT the full version of the game.  The Workers' Primer is the players' guide and contains only the player-facing rules to facilitate play.  The full version of the Hammer and the Stake will be released later.

Hey,
Before you read anything I have to say, I'm not a linguistic, just a native and might be mistaken.
(First thing first LOVE IT and KS money well spent!)
I just seen one word "Vitéz" in the book (at the Titles section) and if I may suggest the translation to be champion instead of warrior or fighter?
Warrior/Fighter mean "Harcos" in my language and it diminishes the glory of what "Vitéz" means(The meaning carries that the person not only good fighting, but have a good and strong spirit and defending the weaks. And I know that knight-Lovag should be similar, but "Vitéz" is not only a title or rank of army, but it used to be used by common folks to call someone extraordinary(regardles of being in a military organisation or not)).
My suggestion is to use Champion(even though it means "Bajnok", but since you never used Bajnok, you can use Champion for Vitéz) or Gallant. Yes both of them are actually kinda adjective-y, but in our...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
