100 Hooks and Rumours to Hear in Symbaroum

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Characters may come across rumours and pieces of information when asking around and this supplement has a list of 100 such they could hear. Whether or not any particular rumour is true or not is up to the GameMaster. These hooks and rumours can be used to add background colour or be a potential source of adventure hooks.

This PDF supports Adobe layers and the page backgrounds and images can be disabled to make printing easier.

Here are some sample results:

  • The Artisan's District of Yndaros was for some time in turmoil, after the Queen decided a guild system be installed, as various individual competed for the master and grandmaster seals of the different guilds. Many of the survivors left, which resulted in the bloody fighting dying down, but recently there are rumours it's started up again, albeit in a more subtle way, with coordinated programmes of assassination being carried out against certain candidates.
  • The bandit ogre known as Mound has a gang of goblins and tamed rage trolls and causes problems in the area around Yndaros. Recently, it seems that the ogre has recruited, or perhaps intimidated, more followers into joining him, increasing the size of his group and enabling him to cause more destruction and go after bigger targets.
  • The barbarian clans sometimes war amongst themselves, but haven't done in some time due to the arrival of the Ambrians and the various threats from Davokar. However, some Ambrians think that they would be better served if the clans did start to attack each other again, weakening them overall, and are looking into ways of provoking an inter-clan war.
  • The barbarians of clan Odaiova control the land between Thistle Hold and Karvosti, and profit from the travellers who pass through their land and those who trade between the Ambrians and the clans. There's a rumour that Embersind, the clan chieftain, is looking to be granted an honorary title by Queen Korinthia, one that gives him authority over lesser titles but which doesn't mean he gives up any independence.
  • The beacon in Thistle Hold has been the target of attacks by citizens who have been bribed to do so on a number of occasions. There's a rumour that another attempt to burn the beacon down was only just stopped recently, and that this attempt was far more organised than any of the previous ones, suggesting those who wish to see the beacon destroyed are putting more resources into their attempts.

The title of this is '100 Hooks and Rumours to Hear in Symbaroum" This is a niche title, but there are remarkably little rumours in the core books. This supplement sets out to change this. We get 100 well written, slightly intr [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
