Perilous Deeps
by A customer [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 01/12/2016 18:50:46

I haven't read them closely so I can't say the quality of the dungeons. They look alright from skimming through, but based on the first sentence of the description I assumed there would be dungeon-building advice. Nope, it's six dungeons.

The Perilous Wilds
by A customer [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 12/01/2015 02:26:44

I was a bit underwhelmed by this after all the other good reviews. There are some good bits in this book and the art is excellent. I'm most disappointed about the additional moves, particularly the hireling, movement rules and weather rules. They seem to add more complexity to the game without adding additional fun. A few of the moves seem to be text book examples how you shouldn't design moves, according to the Dungeon World rule book. For example giving players options to do nothing. The compendium classes lack the zing and weirdness of the ones provided alongside the original rules. The random dungeon creation is good and the descriptive text is well written. I think the problem for the authors is that Dungeon World is so subtly well designed that the most likely result of adding more to it is that you end up with something that isn't quite as good. I got the same feeling reading this book as looking at a Lotus Elise that's been fitted with aftermarket 'improvements'. There is good stuff here but I'll be using it sparingly in my own games.

Perilous Almanacs
by Robert S. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 10/26/2015 10:12:50

Inspiration given in a highly usable format, these almanacs are diverse settings easily fitted into the Dungeon World system. Honestly, though, they are excellent material to be used in just about any setting or system, and will undoubtedly excite and enthrall your players. I'm very pleased with the purchase.

You will not be disappointed in your purchase as this is (like all Lampblack & Brimstone products) an extraordinary marriage of deeply considered, well-edited systems with gorgeous art.

The Perilous Wilds

What a superb product! A delight in every way, The Perilous Wilds taps directly into what many GMs and players want most: pure, unencumbered exploration. Do yourself (and your players) a favor and give this book a try. I should note, in addition to the excellent content, the illustrations are a pure joy.

A Book of Beasts
by Robert S. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 10/26/2015 09:32:27

A wonderful source book for a variety of beasts. The art (as with all of the Lampblack & Brimstone releases) is superb, and a lot of thought went into building a wide array of creatures to bring into your Dungeon World campaign.

The Perilous Wilds
by Roland V. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 10/14/2015 08:16:13

The Perilous Wilds is an incredibly useful book for the GM toolkit. The advice and methods it contains aren't new, but tried-and-true techniques to develop and enhance your fantasy roleplaying setting. Nevertheless, the book manages to present the items in a fresh and engaging way. There is no extraneous chatter, no unnecessary fluff: there are a bare minimum of examples, and the art is small and unobtrusive.

Pound-for-pound, you will be hard-pressed to find a better value for your gaming dollar. It is amazing how much content is packed into 72 pages; I have gotten half as much use out of books three times as long. The group method of developing the campaign world ensures that it will be a new and interesting adventure for everyone. The new rules for exploration and followers are presented in a way that lends ideas on how to use these methods in other games, besides Dungeon World.

All told, I rate this product at 5 stars for content and 5 stars for presentation; I'd love to give an extra half-star just for the extra digital options, as you get both color and black-and-white covers, and in both jpg and png file formats.

Extremely useful tables, nicely written worldbuilding ideas and beautiful art. I have been using the Perilous Wilds in my games since the author released a preview of the PDF. It's a fantastic tool that is not only useful for Dungeon World, but can also be used in most sandbox-fantasy games. The Perilous Wilds makes every voyage unforgettable and inspiring.

The Perilous Wilds

If you are interested in classic retro style with modern mechanics and storytelling, then you will love the Perilous Wilds. Selling my gaming group on Dungeon World was difficult, but these books make is so much easier because my friends are intrigued by the design of them (the physical copies look beautiful). Give it a try.

Fantastic product in every regard, from the art to the layout to the content itself. Also useful far beyond Dungeon World for those looking for a thoroughly modern take on the old-school hex crawls. Lovely stuff.

Freebooters on the Frontier
by Matt P. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 09/24/2015 09:28:28

Freebooters on the Frontier is to Dungeon World what Dungeon World was to the bevy of games it bested. Here, structure and imagination come together again at last, bringing what players across systems and levels of expertise expect. In my opinion, it is better than raw DW for players of D&D and AD&D because it returns some very familiar mechanics to the table. But it also suits players with other penchants. In fact, with Freebooters, I've united 35-year 1E veterans, leading edge rules-heavy advocates, persona-creating thespians, and even first-time gamer kids under fantastic experience of near-instant fun. The system holds up to longer campaigns as well, especially when combined with the more detailed rules of Lampblack's other DW expansion, The Perilous Wild (previously known as "Perilous Journeys"). I could write a book here encouraging you to take this modest plunge, but I prefer reviews that are short and emphatic. Buy Freebooters, Perilous Wilds, and the other companion products from L&B. I expect that you will be thrilled.

Servants of the Cinder Queen
by Matt P. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 09/24/2015 08:08:20

I've enjoyed everything from L&B and this was no exception. Creative and fun, with the kind of inspiring text and images that made old school gaming fun. Players should bring their imaginations, because this adventure will become far more than is included in the box if you run it openly as Dungeon World is run best. Five Stars!

Funnel World

One of the best Dungeon World supplements out there. More than worth the price, a lot of fun to use for first sessions (and even one shots).
