A fun little solo game with an "old school" feel. Comes with all components needed to play (except dice, if I must say so,) although you may want to fiddle with some of them before printing, like downscaling the character counters or changing some black areas on the dungeon tiles to a lighter color that won't use so much ink. Rules are simple and resolution tables (for encounters, monster behavior) work well. For a more detailed review, you may check http://fantalonia.blogspot.com/2011/05/review-dark-dungeon.html

I didn't get much game out of this one, unfortunately. Five games gave me five short trips down dungeons that turned out to be dead ends at level one. Before that, my characters got to fight a few goblins that really was no challenge at all, since the combat rules made sure they fumbled constantly trying to hit the fighter with decent armour.

So I lost five games out of five, because the adventure was over before the challenges began. I tried a few random layouts as well -- more dead end dungeons.

Rules unclearly written, inconsistent (does resting give back 4 magic points or all of them?) and full of spelling errors a spell checker would have caught.

This doesn't really seem play tested to me. The art is pretty decent though, especially the floor tiles. And it's fairly cheap.

LIKED: Fair art. Nice characters. The scripted adventure is a fun idea that could work fine and should be replayable.

DISLIKED: Ends with an anticlimax far to often. Even if I was unlucky, eight out of eight layouts shouldn't end in dead ends before the game has got up to speed.

Combat doesn't seem to be playtested. The fighter is not only invulnerable to goblins -- the rules make sure the goblins actually fumble trying to get through his armour.

Editing not good.

Some of the fiddly bits are useless. Am I really supposed to give myself hundreds of little gold bits? I ended up counting everything on paper instead, since I needed pen and paper for other stuff in the game anyway.

QUALITY: Acceptable

VALUE: Disappointed
Sorry you were disapointed in the game, most customers find it to be a great little system. As to your comments, it seems you had a rather bad set of dice rolls if you ended up never getting off the first level in five games. The system is designed to be tough, but there are several options to exploring the dungeon that should have resulted in you finding exits to the next levels before you ran into to many dead ends. As to combat, yes, lowly goblins will have a hard time dealing with a fully armored warrior, but then they should have such difficulty. Other creatures in the game will not have that trouble. Once again, not every game is for everyone, thats why we offer so many different systems and games, one has to find you screaming with fun and excitment.

If I had a bomb shelter I would put a printout of this game in it and sitting out the apocalypse would be much less boring.

LIKED: It's solo play.

DISLIKED: I wish there was more.

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Satisfied
Well I don't think I have every seen a recommendation quite like this one, but what the hell, its fun. You should look up the other advantures for Dark Dungeon, there are four in total, and two other expansions, the character builder and the lair builder, which both expand thre systems playabliity. Have fun

Very nice attention to detail, lovely artwork, wish you had shown the characters in full profile, head to foot that is and I really wish you had made the counters square and not round, it?s so quick to cut square counters out after printing, round counters take forever to cut out, which can get very soar on?ya fingers. But all in all, a lovely piece of work and once I?m done cutting out the CENSORED round counters, I look forward to playing thru it.

LIKED: Very nice attention to detail, lovely artwork, wish you had shown the characters in full profile, head to foot that is

DISLIKED: I really wish you had made the counters square and not round, it?s so quick to cut square counters out after printing, round counters take forever to cut out, which can get very soar on?ya fingers.

QUALITY: Acceptable

VALUE: Satisfied
Glad you liked the game Peter, and yes, round counters can be a pain to cut out , but to be honest, they are less prone to damage afterwards (Corners don't get bent up on round counters), and the punch dies we had made for full production of our games are all round, and expensive too boot. Keep an eye out or more adventures for Dark Dungeon, a new character design system and even a random dungeon design system, all on the way in a few short months.

A fun set of rules for dungeon exploring. Lot of time spent playing this. Has a few rough edges, but then what game doesn't? Well worth it. Though I do tire of BBG use of the same art over and over.

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Very Satisfied
Glad you liked the game and have played it a lot, thats the best review any game can have, is it worth playig more then once. As to reusing the same artwork over and over, ya we tend to do that, only because it means I don't have to spend the time doing up new artwork for a game, and thus can spend the time making new games instead. We will though, strive to make some new art for you in the next few games. Next year's series of Mini-Games will have all sorts of new pics to look at and grow tired of.

A solo dungeon crawl with simple rules, using random dungeon generation tables based on battle tiles. Only one adventure included, and no easy way to create more, but looks like it is intended to have additional ones developed later.

What I expected, at a fair price, but will probably be mined for ideas rather than played. For a more complex but similar game based on d20, try Dungeon Bash.

LIKED: Battle tiles; the fact that it's self-contained, without needing reference to another game I may not have. Can be played solo or multi-player with/without a GM.

DISLIKED: Paper minis - the art style doesn't work for me [personal taste I guess; they do the job]. When encounters appear is random, but the encounters themselves are scripted, so always much the same.

QUALITY: Acceptable

VALUE: Satisfied
Thanks for the review Andy, if you liked the map tiles used in Dark Dungeon, then check out Bad Baby's series of battle Tiles. There are over 20 sets, each with lots of Battle Tiles usable for most RPG and combat based games.

Have not fully played this game yet, but so far am really impressed by this solo dungeon game. I've been looking for a game like this for a while, and now I'm looking forward to further adventures promised for this one. Although labeled as a "mini" game, I would not consider this mini at all. Quite a bit of support material and playability here with tiles, character cards and tokens to help. I first thought the adventure book would be like the old paragraph-style choose-your-own-adventure books, but enough randomness with the dungeon and encounters makes this game playable multiple times. I also like the ability to create your adventure group and equip it by spending gold. Leaves more options for starting out as well. Can be played multiplayer, but haven't tried that yet.

LIKED: Random dungeon generation, chioce in characters and equipment, much supporting material

DISLIKED: Typos and some spelling errors, but not enough to detract from understanding the game. Would like to see more adventures.

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Very Satisfied
