I was able to play this with a group on Roll20 a few weeks ago. I had no idea what Age Past was and very little expectations. In our 4 hour game I was amazed at how easy the system is to learn. I also felt that the mechanics had enough flexibility to enable you to accurately portray any situation. I'm excited to find a group and actually play this some more!

I've played a few other RPG systems D&D (3.5, 4, & 5th Editions), Pathfinder, Star Wars D20, All 3 Fantasy Flight Games Star Wars RPG books, Hero System, etc. I've been playing with the old edition of Age Past for over a year now; mostly on & off with one-time adventures with my friends. I decided to try my hand at being a GM and picked Age Past: The Incian Sphere as my first attempt at creating my own campaign. I truly fell in love with this system as my time as GM. My campaign ran for a little over a year with the same core 6 players at our local Comic/Game shop. It was one of the most fun times I've ever had playing tabletop; the Age Past system allows for a nearly limitless amount of creativity without being overly complicated. One of the easiest parts for both my players and I was being able to easily solve mechanical problems and come up with creative solutions. In all of the other systems I mentioned we would have to occasionally open up the rule book in the middle of a session to try and solve the whacky and creative antics my players would get into. But the rule system for Age Past leaves enough wiggle room to solve these same problems without having to slow down the table by flipping through the rule book. It has a similar amount of creative freedom as Hero System, but with way less complexity.

This is where the Revised Edition has blown the old edition out of the water. The creator Jeff Mechlinski has done an amazing job at keeping the open ended nature of Age Past but making the rules even simpler. I currently have a new campign starting in a week using the APISR and I couldn't be more excited. For those that have played D&D; imagine the perfect marriage that was 5e. How it took great elements from 3.5e, but streamlined the rules. APISR does this in a similar fashion; all of the freedom for both players and the GM remain intact, but the mechanics are a lot more streamlined and easier to execute.

Author and Designer Jeff Mechlinski takes a bold new approach to Swords and Sorcery medieval fantasy in Ages past. After turning about 20 This reviewer learned of the world of rpgs outside of Dungeons and Dragons. Often I have encountered systems meant to cater to one specific setting or feeling. This is neither of those and encompases a wide range of settings. The age past system does one thing above all other things it does extremely well. Variety, is the core of this system building a classless character from the ground up with your own wants and desires strewn about it. I personally love my character from it. He is everything I wanted. Moving forward the alignment system is inventive and refreshing and the races are full of there own flare without being to unfamiliar. My primary issue with this rulebook however Is in fact the core mechanic of dice pooling, and the combat, while this reviewer understand the point of the system in that one can be far more narrative to combat, it often feels bogged down in a minutia of unneeded athematic and overly complex rules. The dice system while elegant can take new comers a bit longer to learn though this is not a negative long term. All in all for my first experience with this Author/Designer I find that Age Past is a refreshing and invigorating take on the swords and sorcery catalogue and I am excited to see his next product hit the shelves

Age Past is one of the most fun RPGs that I've played in a long time. The Elegant10 mechanic keeps the game going smoothly without too much crunch, and the skills system allows players some flexibility over how they can accomplish tasks and overcome challenges in game. Another thing I enjoyed it is that there are near-endless options available to players for making the character that they want. The world of Incia is one of a kind while still feeling familiar and welcoming to players. Highly recommended.

If you enjoy games with lots of customization in character creation this game is for you. It's been a long time since I've seen a game that really lets you build the character you want to play. the various abilities are all creative and fun and the magic system feels great to play with. mecganics are smooth and relatively simple while still having plenty of satisfactory crunch. If you need something new for your fantasy games give this one a try!
